Hey all ,

Using my friends account to post this , i seem to be having a fair few issues with my custom built pc , its around 3 years old , and the system specs are as followed.

Processor: Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5200 @ 2.50GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 2046MB RAM OCZ 800Mhz
Hard Drive: 160 GB Western digital
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 4770
Monitor: LG 19 Inch
Sound Card: Realtek HD
Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2
Motherboard: Gigabyte p45
PSU: 500W OCZ

Obviously before posting here , i made sure i could do what i could before asking someone for help , i will try to explain the issue to the best of my ability as well as explain what ive done to try and fix it.

About a month ago my ISP , disconnected and i noticed a pretty big ping increase on my connection , i went from 25ms in basically all servers , to a crazy 70ms , must people would consider that a minor change if they have been playing on 70ms for a while , but i consider it a drastically huge change , having tried to consult my isp with a ton of tracerts and pings , there trying to charge me for a engineer to come out , and lets face it , its going to be someone to check the filters and modem , its going to do sod all with the line.

So after giving up with my ISP , i just learnt to live with it , but somewhere down the line , i started looking at my fps , and noticed huge , and i mean huge fps drops on call of duty 4 , i had a steady 250fps in and around 170 in combat , but when ever i go into combat now , im met with this massive fps drop , its quick but noticeable , drops to around 50fps , then my screen starts shaking , and everything feels and looks as though its running really slow , the weapons also appear to fire slower. Im met with no error message when this issue occurs , it just happens in combat.

Its also taking 3 or 5 minutes to boot xp , i guess for some people that happens , but not for my gaming rig , normal boot time a month ago was 40 seconds.

Now to tackle this issue , ive done the following:

Formatted XP
Reinstalled custom , new and older drivers for my GPU
Reinstalled sound drivers
Increase My GPU fan speed
Increase My gpus speed
Checked temps *All stable and looking correct*
Installed all HIGH Priority updates
Installed all chipset drivers
Ran Chkdsk In windows And once on Boot
Increased my CPU speed
Increased my Ram speed

Every single component in my pc , was built around gaming , when i first built it , it played every single game out , now clearly there's a issue here , and i want to find out exactly what it is , so i can replace it as quick as possible.

If i have forgot to add any information , please don't hesitate to ask.

What does GPU temp top out at in a gaming session?

Have you run memtest to rule out memory? Easy and quick to do.

Rune Prime 95 to test stability?

I do have a mem test disc laying around somewhere , never been 100% sure on whats really good , normal , bad , very bad , could you post a screenshot or something so i know what im looking for.

As for prime , ive ran that , everything seems ok .

Temps under no real strain , running basic stuff , firefox , Everest paint , xfire.

Any ideas to what the issue is mainly pointing to?

Ok basically i turn on the computer or restart the computer , it loads memory etc , loads a few more devices , then goes to the splash screen , and the xp bar is moving , but it stays there for about 2 minutes , then the screen goes all black *Assuming its booting into windows* , then another 1 or 2 minutes later it finally boots into my desktop.

this might be stupid, i have the same problem, mine is 3 year old too... but my set up is slightly different. i think it might be the hard drive or the power on mine. that is why i`m buying a new computer. my last computer stopped working and it was 4 - 5 years old i think, it was a pentium 3 but my mate that i gave it to, said the hard drive had gone belly up. maybe get a new hard drive and see what happens.
