ordered a pair of Khumo ecsta 31's from camskill due today/tomorrow i think. probably get them fitted at weekend. Size 205/16/50. my current are only skinny 195/55/16 so ill have fatter rubber on the front than the rear.

but ill provide pics and thoughts from tomorrow etc.

i seen lots of ppl talk about this tyre but then pull out and go falken or goodyear, but at £108 shipped for 2x tyres i couldnt say no.

i'm running in a set in that size right now. initial thought is that they dont grip as well as my falken 452s in the dry but are better in the wet

Pretty strange what driving a poor new tyre and a good old tyre back to back can do.

Calling them 'poor' is unfair, you have to look at them in comparison to other tyres at the price, things like the Toyo T1-R, Falken FK452 etc, and in my experience they are the best performers in that price range, especially in the wet.

They are a mid-range tyre, and are priced as such.

I find them a great tyre for the money, and they are a world apart from a genuinely 'poor' tyre like Linglongs et al.

perhaps poor was unfair. But they were being directly compared with the continental contisport 3s. Data the test proves are better than the kumhos (even though they are atrocious value for money considering how little extra you get for the significant extra cost)

Indeed..

Plus different sizes etc seem to yield differing results in tyre tests, but I don't doubt that the KU31's are not quite as good as top end tyres, but VFM they seem to be on the money.

went to get them fitted today

compared to my previous tyes they are really good. much stiffer sidewall.. no rollypoly feel to them. cant compare to say, a decent set of tyres as i do not have that experience on this car.

i paid £108 shipped for the pair and it was well worth it. wider than my old tyre (205 vs 195) so should have more traction too.

I've been very happy with mine on my car, they were £153 fitted for all 4 tyres :)

195/50/15

Going to try Hankook K110 V12 Evo for the next set, and see how they compare

I have them in 235/35/R19 and I feel they are much better than the Conti SportContacts 3 I had before.

orly?

I've gone the other way, KU31 to CS3, only done 2 miles so far though so a little unfair to compare:p

Mytyres only charged me £199 for 4 x 195/45/16 oddly, should have been £250.

edit: from bank statement...

some more feedback done about 30 miles on them now after driving in to work today in the wet with them on.

tyres vastly superior to the previously installed bridge stone turanzas. they are stiffer, rounder, and just feel better on the road.

handling is improved, grip is improved. overall: 8/10 so far!

I'm happy with my 4 KU-31's (225/50/16) on my Scorpio Cosworth - much better than the Pirelli P6000's on it originally.

I don't really push it as it's not the car for that (I don't hang around either though) but I do have confidence in it and I've been down the lanes in some fairly horrid weather the last week. I'm certainly seeing the traction control light a lot less!

Nice and quiet on the motorway too.
