HTC Hero, coming July on Orange and T-Mobile, makes me want!

If you use gmail sync and store files onto your memory card then theres only applications that you will have to download again.

I am undecided to go back to 1.5 rom as I don't think I am too keen on the 2.1. I am gettin wierd things happening like undeliverable texts e.t.c
 
Lol, I'm right in the middle of that guide as I type this :p

Everything is going fine but I'm stuck on "Now run the Generic RUU you downloaded and follow the instructions in the program."
When I do this I get Error 701, a USB problem. I've tried the phone both mounted and not mounted, and on both WinXP and 7, getting the issue on both. Getting to the point now where I'm just considering giving up.
 
Tried Windows 7 x64, XP x64 and XP x86 (All 3 different machines), all giving the same error. Done some Googling and it's a very common problem, however nobody seems to know the definitive cause.

Edit: YES! Finally did it :D

What's the ROM of choice at the moment for the Hero? I went for the first one which I stumbled upon, probably foolishly, and am having a few issues - minor things, such as being unable to change my wallpaper to anything from my photo album without the album crashing, but still a pain.

Am after an up to date, reliable ROM - don't need anything too fancy (although if there are any cool tweaks that's always nice!)

That's what I'm on...don't know why I can't use wallpapers from my album. Also, whatever part of the OS that is needed to connect to the PC as a storage device force closes frequently, meaning that I regularly have to reboot the phone to hook it up to the PC. Both are nuisances, especially if I just want to drag a couple of songs onto the phone and leave.

I'm looking at Chocolate Eclair 1.1. It's had some good feedback and is bang up to date.

I just put that on my Orange Hero today. Such such an easy process.

The rom seems stable and it is easy enough to use, update etc. Loads quicker than before, everything is snappy. Just need to transfer my photo's back and I will be happy.
 
So.... not having had 2.1 for long (VillainRom 12.0), I hear 2.2 Froyo is being released TODAY for our Hero's thanks to the VR team.

A twitter post says they Rom is DONE and was being uploaded last night with links to be posted today.
 
just asking for a friends, anyone heard when 2.1 is due for the hero on orange? he's not interested in rooting and wants to wait for the official release.
 
Yup on Orange here and still had nothing through, I check the HTC site every week :/

It will be time for my upgrade before I get this ****ing update!!

i have the desire and wait for 2.2, but my mate is desperate to get on 2.1 from 1.6, he has heard nothing from orange or htc.
 
Looks like the T-Mobile update is out! Just going to do a few benchmarks before I update so I can see if there's any performance difference.
