What brand of glasses do you wear?

Hugo Boss, Silhouette, Ray Ban, Maui Jim, Gucci and Versace.

Seriously answer me this: why does anyone need to have a brand over a non-brand other than to try an elevate themselves above the person next to them?
Brands are different in glasses though. The best lenses without peer are Silhouettes, but they cost a bomb to reflect it (£550 with my prescription in). Same for Ray Bans. My RBs cost £400 because of my prescription, glazing, coating and polarizing, but man are they worth it. Best driving sunglasses I've ever had.

All my glasses are glazed and coated, which costs in excess of £100, depending on which manufacturer does it, but I get zero reflection from any light source, ever, and my eyes are protected against more than just UV radiation which the cheaper glasses only protect against.

I'll admit I only got the Gucci & Versace because the frames were gorgeous, but again, high quality lenses.

Why buy any brand? If you wear glasses they are like an accesorie and if you like a certain style and brand then why not?

My Ray Bans were better made, lighter and fit me better than the no name ones.

Exactly the cheap specsavers own ones always look carp, and when you have to wear them on your face all day everyday you would rather something that you like the look of.

The more expensive ones, in the case of glasses look better. I realise this is not the case for all consumables but in glasses it generally is.

I've started to get half-rim ones in an attempt to make my glasses less obvious, so having expensive ones that look 'nicer' is moot for me. How often to people examine them intricately up close any way?

Quite aside from that, Specsavers use crap quality lenses in many of their frames (a lot of their designer ones are sold as loss leaders).

Benson & Ashley.

Count yourself lucky, I'm -10 and -9.50.

I *was* -10.0 in both eyes from birth.

Had lens implant surgery at 26yrs + multiple minor astigmatism correction ops which brought them down to ~+0.5 left and ~+1.0 right.

Since that, I've had 4 retinal detachments (3 right, 1 left), now blind in right and left sat around +2.0...and back to glasses again...

I FAIL.

Here's a slightly more scientific, and well knowledgeable, opinion on Specsavers lenses:

Yes Specsavers are pretty much the most inferior of the multiple bunch, closely followed by Boots. They manufacture their own lenses and then say that they are pentax, which is a falsification and the General College of Optoms has been pushing to have them fined for the last four years.

The coatings are substandard, the anti reflection is incredibly green instead of very clear, it also tends to break down and give distorted vision sooner, which is quids in for Specsavers as the lenses need re-coating sooner at cost to the patient.

The transitions use old technology, don't change swiftly and tend to have a permanent slight tint when they should be clear. They also age quickly.

The varifocals are old designs that have a larger areas of distortion and smaller reading areas. Our lowest priced vari (Essilor Comfort) which has a 20 year old design is better than their top priced vari.
