What brand of glasses do you wear?

I didn't buy Maui Jims for the brand, I bought them because of the high quality construction and materials as well as the warranty/repair availability. They also have "mandated" retail prices so buying locally meant I was not losing out compared to an online purchase.

Think I got mine from boots after I had my eye tests done.

I'd like some more comfortable ones though. Both pairs have got a bit of a wonk about them now from being sat / stood on. The main pair that I like to wear also now have a little chip in the glass.

I've had these for about 3 weeks and really like them so far, seem good enough quality, but I'll only be able to say that for sure after I've worn them for a year and seen if it remains in good condition.

Previously I've had glasses with those adjustable nosepad things, so was a little sceptical that these would fit/stay on my nose properly, but the fit me really well (once the optician people got the arms the right length grrr).

I *was* -10.0 in both eyes from birth.

Had lens implant surgery at 26yrs + multiple minor astigmatism correction ops which brought them down to ~+0.5 left and ~+1.0 right.

Since that, I've had 4 retinal detachments (3 right, 1 left), now blind in right and left sat around +2.0...and back to glasses again...

I FAIL.

Ouch.

I was considering implants when my eyes finally settle down, as no where will laser with eyes this bad, probably not a good idea now though

I have 2 pairs...the first are some generic rubbish from glasses direct, the second are some generic rubbish from glasses direct....BUT they say Benson and Ashley on them.

Only been wearing gegs for about 8 months so i am not sick of wearing them yet.:o

Benson & Ashley.

These but frame is black and temple & ear piece are blue, I don't think you can buy my style any more though. I have had them for about 4 years now and keep annoying vision express when I demand that the frame stays and only lenses get renewed. they fit and are comfortable so sod off

Glasses are not,and never will be cool.I have worn them for years, and hate them with a passion.
I would wear my contacts full time if I could, but because I need prisms its a no no to wear contacts all the time.

My Ray Bans were better made, lighter and fit me better than the no name ones.

A perfectly valid reason. Incidently, where did you get Ray Bans from?

Hugo Boss, Silhouette, Ray Ban, Maui Jim, Gucci and Versace.

Brands are different in glasses though. The best lenses without peer are Silhouettes, but they cost a bomb to reflect it (£550 with my prescription in). Same for Ray Bans. My RBs cost £400 because of my prescription, glazing, coating and polarizing, but man are they worth it. Best driving sunglasses I've ever had.

All my glasses are glazed and coated, which costs in excess of £100, depending on which manufacturer does it, but I get zero reflection from any light source, ever, and my eyes are protected against more than just UV radiation which the cheaper glasses only protect against.

I'll admit I only got the Gucci & Versace because the frames were gorgeous, but again, high quality lenses.

I'm due to buy some new glasses soon and I was going to go with Specsavers for the BOGOF glasses/sunglasses deal. My current pair is with them and they've been fine thus far. Are they really that terrible that I should be avoiding them for my next pair?

Just for the record, I'm probably going to end up with designer because they will more than likely suit me better than other pairs.

The reason for me playing devil's advocate earlier is that I had the distinct impression people were advocating brand snobbery, which evidently I think is very wrong.

Whatever looks good and is cheap. I find they get broken. lost or I get bored of the style too quickly to buy fancy ones. Waste of money.

It isn't like a car or something where the badge means it is likely to be faster or better, clothes/glasses don't require that much quality imho. cheap all the way.

bunch of suckers.

I tried them in a store, D&A iirc then ordered them online as they were a good £50 cheaper.

Interesting.

What's your personal take on Specsavers if you don't mind me asking? Also, do you own many pairs of glasses?

Absolutely. That's the problem with my current pair. They're still in very good condition as I don't wear them all the time, but I've had them around 4 years now and I'm so bored with them I've almost convinced myself I look a tool wearing them.

Specsavers are naff, but quite cheap if they're just for occasional use. Some of their frames are pretty nice too. However the charges for things like reactions are really quite high.

I have 3 pairs, I think. I only wear my Ray Bans though as the others are older pairs with slightly different prescriptions.

Had mine for about a year, worn every single day and they're still absolutely fine. So clearly the quality is important or you're just doing it wrong.

Every day for a year!!!! they must be made out of some kind of super luxury plastic to last that long. ;)

I have some free sunglasses from Mcdonalds in the early 90s that are still gong strong.

glasses just aren't that technical, they can be churned out in China for peanuts and still do the job fine, do you really think some European designer ones that cost 10x as much are 10x as good?

If money isn't important or you can only get that look from that brand then perhaps but for quality reasons I just can't see it, unless whipping a new pair out the draw is too much hassle get a load of different cheap ones.

Just my 2 cents from being in a family of glasses wearers for 25 years.
