Hi,

I have a AMD phenom ii x4 and a 5770 graphics card.

I'm looking to upgrade but not sure whether to get a 5870 or wait for the gtx 485?

As I've heard nvidia make better drivers then ATI.

5770 crossfired is on par / better than 5870.

485 will be rather expensive, if 480 is £400 are you willing to dish out more than that on a 485?

If its the top single card you're looking for and money does not matter to you then wait for 485...you could even crossfire that 5770 while waiting then sell them both and buy 485.

Yes the tessellation on nvidia cards is better but 5870 still outperforms 470 in metro 2033 with tessellation, its the heavy tessellation that ati has problems with and we won't see that kind of heavy tessellation in games for while.

I have had very few driver issues with both brands. You have been misinformed on this occasion and I doubt very much anyone could find any data to back up that statement.
As others have said, if money is no object and you're allergic to multi GPU set ups AND you can wait, the GTX485 MIGHT be the right choice.
But remember that the ATI 6XXX series will be not far behind this release * and could be an even better choice and then something better after that etc etc and you end up playing the waiting game forever!!
I would pop another 5770 in if poss and save your cash for when something new comes out weather that be a 485 or 6XXX

*: in theory, having absolutely no firm dates on either!! I don't even think I've seen anything official from Nvidia saying there even IS a GTX485 let alone any release date - Can you show me were you have seen this?

1gb, the 2gb versions are a lot more expensive and don't give you any tangible performance benefits unless you are using multiple enormous (think small willy) monitors. You can pick up an Xfx card for 285 quid!!!

Well the Vapor X's are vert quiet but poor overclockers (i guess because Sapphire cherry pick the best GPU's for there Toxic cards) Asus are geberally good overclokers and have option of voltage adjustment for even more overclokering protential.

i went for powercolor's 5870 offering, factory clocked tp 950mhz, hopefully it'll be a decent card, better be for 340 sheets lol

i'll know on wednesday..
