Hi

I wonder can someone help me?

I've just updated the mobo (ex58-ud5) bios to version F12 and lost my OC settings. I never dreamed the update would wipe the stored settings!

I have the "OVERCLOCKED* Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz @ 4.00GHz Max / Gigabyte EX58-UD5 Intel X58 Motherboard / Corsair XMS3 6GB PC3-12800C9 DDR3 / Corsair H50" bundle ... and am wondering has anyone else got this bundle with the newer bios and have it OC'd??. If so how easy is it to do as I need my extra horsepower back.
I have posted in the support section and am waiting a reply. However I wondered someone here must have the same setup as me and maybe have the same bios etc

Hope you guy's can help me ;)

Andy

WOW fast reply!! .. I did post there bro, like I said maybe someone here can help?

the thing is ocuk will probably have your exact settings on a pen drive or such and whill just email them to you. then you can enter them yourself. each chip is different so tweaks need to be made.

Problem is Ocuk mention updating the BIOS can mean they can't support the Overclock.

Updating the BIOS on the overclocked bundle range will void the warranty on the overclock. If you update the BIOS we will no longer be able to provide support for configuring and maintaining the CPU overclock.

we can send you the bios profile to work from. unfortunatly every bundle is clocked to its lowest stable voltage. this means that unless you do all the hard work and understand a bit about clocking then you will have to whittle the volts down yourself.

we suggest not to update the bios because once it is out of our hands it makes it incredibly hard to support if we are dealing with customers using hundreds of different bios versions.

post in the support forums and we can post the clcok for you to try :)

Thanks guy's ... have received a reply in the support forums with some settings to try. Will have a bash tomorrow if my 3yr old will leave me alone long enough :)

Would still love to hear from fellow EX58-UD5 users running the latest bios.

PS .. To answer an earlier post, the reason I updated the bios was simply, aren't we supposed to keep these things upto date?. (or not as it may seem). Everything such as video drivers to windows updates to application updates - all improve stability and performance .. or so my train of thought was :/

I updated too a while back but the ocuk settings were still in the Saved bios setting area F11 or F12 (I think). The BIOS complained when I loaded these but the clock worked fine. I updated because 4 Ghz was having trouble sometimes from cold boot and would sometimes fall back to 2.66

When you update a bios, it is always bad practice to then then load saved settings from an earlier bios. The "newer" bios will have had changes made to it, that's why it's "newer". Your older saved settings will not be able to "set" to those newer changes.

What you should do is write down ALL the bios settings on a bit of paper, flash the bios and then input all your old settings by hand into the new bios. Then run stability tests to make shure that the clock is stable. Once you know they are stable, then re-save the settings to the "store settings".

Tried the settings that rjkoneill gave me in the support forum but just caused a BSOD upon bootup. So gonna backwards flash to the bios to the version (F7 - 11/5/09) that was current at time of purchase and see if that works.

Nevertheless I doubt i'll ever be updating bios's again in the near future!

Yes, for future reference, updating the BIOS is best done only to add new support for a lacking feature/processor or to correct a bug that you are personally experiencing.

Most software can be updated at will without losing all your settings, and without the possibility of completely trashing your entire system. BIOS is its own entity.

I am somewhat surprised you had no idea regarding the warranty policy on BIOS, it has even got mentioned in several leading computer magazines.

@Hikari Kisugi ... Yeah I suppose I should have left alone when something aint broke. If I had paid a bit more attention to the conditions of the sale, ie dont update or ur support is screwed haha. Shame nobody bothers to read all the nitty gritty 100% of the time eh?

I rang systems support thsi morning and one of the guy's has emailed me a list of settings to try. Am gonna revert back the bios that I think would have been current at the time of purchase (F7 - 11/5/09) and then try the OC settings I was sent.

So hope this works.
