Hi can anyone advise me on overclocking my cpu on a asus p7p55d

It seem more complicated to oc than my old core2 duo/quad.

im running wc so heat isnt a factor, im aiming for 3.5 or above.

thanks

not overly familiar with that motherboard, but it should be pretty easy to get you're desired oc, maybe even without messing about with stock voltages if you're lucky. i started off disabling speedstep, and turbo then simply played with the fsb and multiplier. i settled for 3.4 (200 fsb and 17x multi). just keep an eye on your rams timings etc that they dont go over their rated. have a search in this forum for your cpu and motherboard and you'll find plenty of similar threads. just remember small steps at a time ;)

If you can force 21x multiplier for CPU, then do it. As suggested above, start from disabling Turbo Boost, Speedstep/C-states/C1E.

Set your voltage to 1.2V manually or anything that goes one notch above auto.
VTT/IMC voltage to 1.15V.

Base clock to 165-170 (if you're forcing 21x multi).

Remember to set your RAM timings to whatever the sticks are rated at.

RAM multiplier set to 4/8x.

Do proper stress testing, IBT maximum RAM plus prime95 blend test work a treat.

If you're running water cooling there's no excuse for not pushing it to at least 4.0 :). I'm running 4 with a corsair H50. Dont have the best clocker in the world so need fairly high volts to get there, but the H50 keeps it cool. Settings (that I can remember off the top of my head):

200x20, mem multipler x8 (1600), qpi ratio x32, Vcore 1.375, Vtt 1.3, Vram 1.66, LLC on.

Can your ram go any higher than 1333 (any 1600 xmp maybe?). If not that might stop you getting anywhere near 200 bclk unless you have a low mem multiplier option (x8 is the lowest on my mobo) and will limit your overcock.

Auto tune is wrong, proper overclocking is based on the highest overclock using the least voltage.

Check your RAM timings again and use vcore voltage of 1.25V and VTT of 1.2V. I forgot the vdroop.

thanks ive tried all your settings but it wouldnt boot, ive now tried auto tune and it booted running stable on intel burn test, its clocked it at 3.7 195x19

What settings did you try? And does your bios show you what settings it has chosen (voltages of particular interest) in this autotune mode?

i tried 165 x 21 cpu 1.2 vtt 1.15

on auto tune settings are

195 x 19 vots are on auto but current volts say vc 1.28 imc 1.262 ram 1.65 pll 1.806 pch 1.050.

ive just increast multi to 20 so running 3.9 volt went to 1.34

it hits 72c in intel burn test

Okay ive now changed settings to this as mr krugga stated

170 x 21

cpu 1.25
vtt/imc 1.2

all c-states disabled speed step
llc enabled
pci and cpu spread disabled

passed intel burn test hightest temp 64c

core temp still reports 171 x 9 = 1541 then goes up under load
