I'm after a nice watch to celebrate my graduation and birthday this week - I've been considering a range of options ranging from the Oris TT1 http://www.watchfinder.co.uk/Oris/TT1-Divers-Watches/643_7637_74_54_MB-m15739-watch.aspx?utm_source=froogle&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=froogle

to the Omega Seamaster http://www.watchfinder.co.uk/Omega/Seamaster-300m-Co_Axial-Watches/212.30.41.20.01.002-c9398-watch.aspx

to the IWC Aquatimer http://www.watchfinder.co.uk/IWC/Aquatimer-Watches/IW356801-m14918-watch.aspx

or a wallet busting Rolex Sub - http://www.watchfinder.co.uk/Rolex/Submariner-Watches/16610--m1784-watch.aspx

Any advice from the watch experts on here as to what benefits are to be had by paying for the more expensive ones.

I have to say that the Rolex is my current favourite having tried one on next to the Omega, but the cost is a bit much...

Have you considered the Omega Planet Ocean? It also has the Co-Axial movement as well, and comes in 2 sizes, 42mm and 45mm. I have the 42mm version and it is excellent, mine is the orange bezel version and is very striking.

Out of those three, I'd have the Seamaster. I love the black one. If I had the money I'd have one right now, but there's always something more important to buy.

I don't like that particular IWC, and Submariners are way too common.

I have considered one of these - the 45mm might be slightly on the large size for me having tried one on - haven't tried a 42mm yet, so should probably do that.

Retro watches are awesome.

You call that retro ?

I was at school when the first LED watches came out that you had to press the button to see the time (and yes, I know I'm old).

Big fan of the IWC brand, though less for their sports watches and more for the aesthetics of their more subtle devices such as the IWC Portuguese range, such a lovely timepiece. Over the ones you have chosen above I would probably go with the Seamaster.

Very nice watch house.

I would go for the omega or the Sub. If you can spend a little more get your self a sea dweller. I have both the Sub and Sea dweller and its a much nicer feeling watch.

Agreed. There are much more interesting watches around like this and this. However I guess some people have particular things they like to spend extra money on, or are just loaded :D

Are you taking the pee by posting that rubbish?

OP; I'd personally go with the seamaster, infact i did :p A great foray into proper watches and at £1750, a fair amount cheaper than the other two.
