I had my Jobseekers letter through, on the final page it says

How much money the law says you need to live on each week - £65.45

£3404 PA is surely classed as poverty in UK

Or is £65.45 the amount that just covers food and clothing? The average rental cost is about £60 alone and that doesnt include bills

...I am entitled to £62.45 which is fine by me. It should see me though until I have another job, which will hopefully be soon

When mates have been on the dole for whatever reason, the total usually covers rent food etc.
If not, that's more than I'm living off at the moment x 6 :P

Currently working 30 ish hours over 4 days and a day at college earns me £95 a week. It seems like a better idea to be on the dole.

You earn 3 quid 17 p an hour :eek::eek::confused: ? At 21 Oo ?

I don't have any bills to pay but my phone and car, and 65 quid pw is just enough for that.

If I'd have to pay rent and the bills, it'd be at least, 1300€, provided I lived the same as I do now but had the house/bills for myself.

Get a ''real'' job to do next to college ?

Because in that case, I get 310€ per month in student grants for ''working'' at uni.
I earn 550-600€ ish per month for 15 ish hours per week at TNT though ( during uni, in holidays I work&earn more).

I need to be employed in an IT role to pass the college course as I need to provide evidence of what I have done at work as one of the main units in the course. Took me 6 months before hand to get this job in the first place. I'll have to put up and shut up for now til I get a pay raise.

£80/week for rent and house bills
+
£100 for food and other costs such as transport, mobile, clothes, drink.

i have a mortgage and all associated bills. i asked them at the job centre how i was to survive. they will pay the interest on my mortgage after 12 weeks of claiming (i think i may still be claiming after this time - i'm not having much luck on the job front) then was advised to use my savings. so, bye bye savings essentially. little peeved to say the least compared to some of the other people in the country who get a quite comfortable amount in benefits.

Lots of things affect benefits. Ultimately if benefits were even 'more' comfortable, why would people get off them to work 9-5 every day? 5/7 9-5 or 1 appointment every two-weeks and be able to live. Benefits are there to aid you not support you. That's working taxpayer money.

I've got resits to do in August for my degree, but I don't get any student loan and not eligible for any money from the state nor can I find a job. I have £250 to my name... It's not enough to live on. :(

Anyone in Glasgow want to give me a job? :D

You can apply for housing and council tax benefit and they will be assessed separately. it will be interest only on your mortgage but i think that's fair.

People survive.

I think he means how there's no way he would survive on benefits alone, yet there are people who've barely worked at all yet can live just as well on benefits as if they had a job.
