Goldtrail collapse, parents in Turkey

Just wondering if anyone could help out here?

Parents booked with Goldtrail to go to Turkey, departing on the 11th July, now the travel operator has collapsed and left lots of people in limbo. Mum's just phoned me from Turkey a couple of minutes ago saying they've been informed that they have to pay for their accommodation and transfers to the airport as they haven't been paid by Goldtrail.

I told them that they'd already paid for these and that surely the hotel/transfer operator will have to try and recover their money from Goldtrail? I'm probably wrong here and I'm definitely not well versed in law so I was hoping someone could let me know who's in the right?

Goldtrail customers can call the CAA on 0044 203 4410846 for information.

The CAA said it was making arrangements to fly customers home at the end of their holiday under its ATOL (Air Travel Organiser's Licensing) scheme.

But he said it was not on the scale of XL Leisure Group, which collapsed in September 2008 and left 60,000 holidaymakers overseas.

The CAA said the majority of flights home from Turkey will operate as normal.

But holidaymakers in Greece were warned to expect changes to flights and are advised to check with representatives at local airports.

Already called the CAA for information. Both the phone call and the article you're quoting mention flights only, not accommodation and transfers.

Thanks anyway.

can you not talk to a human? did they not suggest who to phone?

Otherwise phone CAB, they will know who you should talk to. although being abroad I have no idea who can do what.

Atol webpage also says that first contact should be through the travel agency. And Goldtrail seem to use mainly agencies rather than directly. So best giving them a call as well.

Yeah just gonna try the agency now. Failing that it's going to have to be the CAB.

Thanks a lot for the advice, appreciate it.

I think there needs to be more protection against travel firms going bust, they must know they are up against the wall for weeks/months, there should be more intervention to prevent them keeping up a pretence until the last moment.
