Hello All, Im about to go over to OC and get a new rig, could you please have a quick scan over the spec and comment if necessary. Its about on my max budget, I already have windows 7 and a dvd writer plus monitor and all that.

I was looking at using the two drives in raid for a quicker read write time, can I add extra drives later on but not in raid?

I also like the idea of getting COD as i dont yet have it and from what i have heard it sounds like a good game, i play a lot of CS:Source on line.

I wont be doing any overclocking.

Thanks

Nice one dude, I dont want to have to mess with or bodge anything.

Just to add sound wil be outputted by optical to an external DAC.

TBH never thought of crossfire, but it might be something for the future I suppose.

the cooler should already have TIM, and why would you get a black cpu not to over clock? you could get a asus board with the oc button that does it auto, even then you wouldn't need a black cpu.

leave it as it is.

Its easy to overclock a black edition with its unlocked multiplier

TIM is the thermal compound, yes some does come pre-applied to the cooler, but if you ever want to take it off/re-attach, then you would need some to re-apply, so get a tube

Could you suggest a board and cpu combo with this one click button?

Whats TIM?

Thanks

well you could save about £20 by going with a non black phenom. and a further £40 if you go for a athlon. but you should read reviews on the cpus first and see what suites you better.

a motherboard with the turbo button like i suggest, well have a look on the asus site, here's an example: http://uk.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=fLIjRELzxMxkH2UQ&templete=2

TIM = thermal compound/paste.

and which magical cpu would this be, that has the same feature set, and levels of cache memory on the die?

the only phenoms less than a 955 are dual cores.

oh, yes it appears ocuk do not sell non black cpu's. ok so you could save£30 with a athlon but it will have a small performance loss at clock for clock. and the phenom probably will clock higher.

just saying ways to save pennies of your not over clocking or confident in it.

almost all amd chipset boards support the AMD overdrive program which is another simple way of getting extra speed from the cpu

Thanks for the input chaps, under the circumstance i think i may just go the first way with the slight change to hard drives. If i had more time i would be looking around and reading more, but circumstance dicate otherwise.

Play nice.
