So who's got an XBOX "Slim" coming this week?

I wasn't suckered into anything, I had a faulty 360, I waited for the new one to come out so I got a free hard drive upgrade and wireless adaptor. Simple.

It's a safe assumption to assume the new 360 will be reliable, every revision to the 360 has been better than the previous.

I won't be ordering one as I have a gaming pc, but this new slimmer 360 doesn't seem very slim to me..

It's not even supposed to be slimmer, it's smaller. People just flocked to calling it the slim.

"360 S" small, the name fits it fine it's a lot smaller than my old 360, I still get surprised when I look over near my TV and see the new one there.

Personally I think the refresh puts the console back up there with the new ps3 and the included wireness n will make them sell.

It was always up there with the PS3. Wireless doesn't change anything when it comes to the gaming which is what's important for a gaming console.

Just whatever you do dont put them on the carpet :D Still with it venting out more heat than the old ones (upto 140F) ventillation seems to be more important than before. It sounds like it will also keep your cup of tea warm and help keep the room warm in winter abit like the old PS3 fats.

i just dont get why people are rushing out to get these? i was excited on annoucement but iv had time to digest the hype and generally this is a bit of an epic waste of money if u already have a 360.

just seems like the whole having something new just for the sake of it routine.

I was the same. I have an Elite and it's perfect.

I'll wait until they do deals or when Halo Reach comes out so i can play with my other half co-op.

The biggest fail with the S is the way it vents the heat out of the top. If like me it sits in a cabinet it just circulates the heat around inside the cabinet even with lots of space. At least the old one used to blow it out the back and out the vent holes in my cabinet...

I would never have bought one.. I personally think its a bit crap in comparrison to the older model, it feels cheap and like it wont last.

Well, I'd never owned an xbox from new - had been given a second hand 20gig launch day console by a mate that upgraded to an elite.

Canny impressed, DVD & general system noise a lot quieter. Wireless works well. Yes, it aint a new console, but hopefully the revision of the hardware that I've been waiting for (ie one thats reliable). Happy so far.

Just got the overheat message again...:-( Going to take it back where it was bought and swap it for another if they have any. Bit of a pain as transfered licenses and installed 28 games to the HDD...

Why do i always get the 1 in a million thats buggered..

I wouldn't do that if I was you. I would use the xbox returns purely so you can get the DRM transferred. It depends I suppose if you ever play offline or connection ever drops out. Its a pain losing that feature of your games If you can't transfer the DRM for another year.

Will call MS and get them to transfer it to the new console. They did this when my elite died and i swapped it instore...

Give it some ventilation and it will never be an issue, now where have I heard that before. No need to get angry because you have been suckered into being an MS beta test again ;)

They know I'm right, just like I was at the launch of the original Xbox 360 when Loadsamoney and myself said there was a build problem with the 360 that wasn't acceptable.

But hey it's shiney and new and I'm a tad prone myself to impulse buys on new stuff, but when you have had as much dud xbox's as me I'd rather let these others 'upgrade' and whinge about failures first and then buy the new new slim with the armageddon chipset.
Obvious troll is obvious....

^ Probably more like 1 in 100.

I'd take it back to the shop too, avoid being without the console for a length of time (why should you be, it's new) and then take it up with MS CS to get some exceptions made or help in re-transferring your stuff. I'd being making note of all 3 console serial numbers to help your cause. This way also avoids any risk of a repaired Friday afternoon machine or refurbed console.

Good luck btw.

Finally, definately likely to buy one. Maybe later on this year, or if and when my 2008 Elite decide to meet it's maker. The improvement in lowering system noise and bigger HDD has sold me.

I think he's right to be honest. Just because someone has an opinion that's contrary to your own doesn't automatically make them a troll. It's not like he doesn't have a 360 and is just talking nonsense about the xbox in general, he's just sitting on the right side of caution with the new model and so am I.

The new 360 is proof that some people have got more money than sense.
I'd rather wait for 6 months / year to see how reliable the new model is than just rush to buy one because it's shiny.

There's a video somewhere comparing this new xbox, the old one,the slim ps3 and the wii. They state that the new 360 is the same width and depth but is just a bit shorter. Should have been called the xbox 360 short or something I think. Or shortarse 360;)

When you do get a new one I'd recommend finding a new location for it as the location in your cabinet I would guess is also a major contributing factor of the issue you have.

Not really. Personally I bought one because of the bigger HDD, quiter operation and that it does look far, far nicer than the big white one it replaces. I still have my old PS3 because I've always been happy with everything about it, but the 360 has never seemed particular good in terms of the hardware, until now. The net effect is that I'll use my 360 a lot more now and probably be swayed towards getting more multi-platform games for it rather than the PS3.

That, plus the fact I got mine for a good price. I wouldn't have been able to justify £200 for one.

Not particularly sure it's fair to brand people as 'suckers' and having more money than sense just because they bought something before you did.

Fair enough, that was a bit harsh, I just didn't think it was fair branding someone a troll just because they were being cautious about the new model and thought that the new 'feature' of shutting down to cool was a bad idea (because let's face it, it is pretty bad as far as ideas go).
It's not sour grapes because they bought it before me though, I'm happy with my xbox and even though the new one does look good and I'm a terrible impulse buyer (got at least 15 360 games I haven't even put in the drive yet) I want to make sure it's reliable before I spend my money on it.

Hmmm i just picked mine up this morning after trading in my elite 120gb...one problem though the new 360 doesnt seem to have any slots for the memory cards so im buggered as all my saves are on my memory card.

Now unless im missing something but pretty im sure im not...why THE **** did they not put a memory card slot in??...WTF was the bloody reasoning for that??

Anyhow taking it back for a refund and get my old elite back because this is simply not good enough from M$...****ing bunch of inept idiots tbh.

If i had known this then i would have transferred all my saves onto a usb memory stick...

I can understand your frustration but as you said, you can just use a USB device instead. No point adding slots for something that isn't going to be used more than once, and isn't necessary anyway. It'd be like them adding a port for the old HDD too.

Yeh i suppose you have a point...just would have been nice to have known that lol...actually its my fault i should have checked myself but just automatically assumed that it still had the mem card slot.

Anyhow rung up the place i got it from and they said bring the mem card and usb stick in and they will transfer the data on it to my usb stick.

My usb stick is formatted FAT32 so i guess that should be fine??

The Xbox will ask to you prepare the flash drive for use when you start to use it, so that'll be fine. Was a fairly straightforward process.
