Can someone with any 200Mbps Homeplug check the power consumption for me?

I'm looking at getting a couple of Homeplug Powerline adaptors for my house but can't seem to find any solid answers to how much power they consume.

Can someone look on one of theirs for me (ideally a 200Mbps version) and let me know either the wattage or the volts and amps used so i can work it out, and the make/model?

Also - are these things are good? I don't really have much of a choice...!

Thanks.

I don't think any of these devices consume that much power.

Maybe 6-10 watts at most. Will cost you less than 2p a day to run a single unit. Having two of them would equate to about the running costs of another router in your setup.

If you could fit them to those plug-in timer switches to switch off in the middle of the night you could save a few pennies but any saving would be destroyed by the cost of the timer switches of course.

Gaming is not bandwidth heavy, so get any from 85mbs if that is all you plan to use them for. If you go down the route of streaming media then look at getting the 200mbs ones.

I have had problems with generic 200av homeplug units failing (excessive heat) , as allways buy from someone or a maker that can and would replace them if needed and who will can update firmware if needed.

Does not have to be netgear or a big manufacuter of something else networky preferably should be someone who has making or selling homeplugs for a while and is still selling them.

i've only had mine for a few weeks but i brought them off the MM for £35 and they work a treat with 50mb broadband.

the guy who owned them before had been using them for best part of 5 months without fail.

the homplugs in question were from a well know etailer's value range. Added bonus is they're passthrough ones too

I've just ordered 2 refurbished Belkin 200Mbps ones off an auction site for £30 as we're stuck using a Sky modem which is rubbish and always drops signal. Can't wait til they arrive.

Thanks for all the posts guys, have found a double pack of 200Mbps Netgear ones at a decent price so will go for those. Looks like the average usage is between 2W in standby and 5W in use which is fine by me, averages out (on my tariff) to be about 12p a week if they're on full load 24hours a day, which obviously they won't be...!

:)
