Honda DC5 Type R

I've had 2 accord type-rs and an import DC2. At the moment I am currently pondering what car to have next. Compaired to the DC2 the DC5 just doesn't do it for me, why pay over twice as much for something thats not quite as good! VTEC a good system and the DC2 was ace fun....on perfectly smooth roads....in the dry. With the UK roads and weather I found I was very limited by when I could actually drive it quickly, at all other times I was left with something that was guttless off cam and actually pretty annoying to just drive normally.

With the price of impreza STIs etc at the moment I'm tempted to pick one up. Much more usable cars for the weather and roads we have here! I've tried my hardest to hate them but awd + turbo = win. They are nice enough to drive normally and are awesome even in the wet. They are not as raw as the teg when its the right conditions, but you need a ballance.

I couldn't spend money on a DC5 where things like impreza STIs are less money, newer with less miles on the clock, but thats just me.
As a general rule of thumb, turbo > VTEC :)

**bump**

Since my last post in this thread, my Lust for a DC5 has increased greatly.

I turn 21 in March, on the 21st :P and I'm seriously considering getting one, I've got the money for one (most appear around to 10-12k mark) and I think the farm insurance might just cover me.

Am I crazy?

Youre not crazy, but if i was in your shoes id be buying a 6k DC2 and spending the extra dollar on properly thought out modifications.

They are nice standard DC2 and DC5 but as soon as you do stuff like

4-2-1 manifold
Induction (not any old cone but something worth it)
cat-back ( the jap ones really are worth the money unless you go custom )
uprated flywheel
coilovers
bigger brakes

You get a BEAST thats still ok to live with!

Its not easy to live with though. The coil overs make it stupidly impractical, the exhaust mods make it annoyingly loud (depends what you get but the decat makes a big difference noise wise!) and the light flywheel can make it trouble around town. This is of course just me rants from owning a pretty modded DC2 as an every day car.

^You don't have to get some sort of super-race lightweight flywheel. I had an ACT 12lb and ACT heavy duty clutch on my b16a and it was fine around town. On a street honda I would not recommend lower than 12lb.

Also I lived int he mountains with some bad roads, but had it dropped about 2" all around, not a crazy drop but not mild either. It just takes a little bit of extra awareness and care driving around....but also we are talking about comfort which is a subjective thing. I found my suspension pretty comfortable...ubt it was nothing crazy stiff...just KYB AGX + H&R sport springs. Handled very well when paired with integra sway bars. In fact with a rear strut bar and rear lower tie bar my car actually oversteered at times which is not something you expect from a civic.

Out of interest... what sort of size is the boot in these (both DC2 and DC5). Do the rear seats fold forwards if you want more space?

DC2 boot is huge, seats do indeed fold forwards. Not sure about the DC5, I heard the Accord-R rear seats don't fold though, which is odd.

Excellent *rubs hands together* :D . Might be a DC2 for me in the future.. I've been looking for a car with a nice enough sized boot but that is still sporty and not too much of a step up all at once (staying FWD will help a lot in that respect I think). Also I'm used to riding a motorbike and ringing the neck out of my work van, so having lots of revs is second nature to me.

How come some have the round headlights and others have rectangular (ish) ones?

The UK models have circular headlights, the imported models have square ones.

The boot is indeed massive on a DC2 with the seats folded, even more so with them removed which takes seconds.

Also, Tim, the Accord R doesn't have folding rear seats, God know why not.

i have a dc2 and love it. there are times when i wish it had more tourqe but i have far too much fun driving it to even consider getting something else

oh my god. brb, going to climb into a large hole...

seriously though, and if you look at my older posts (again:p) this will confirm, the only reason I swapped was because the Ek9 was proving difficult to sell, my intention has always been DC5:p

i'm not that impressed with the clio either, again, my older posts will confirm.

you ****:D

tbh, it is really funny, I surprised a lot of people by buying a Clio, online and IRL.

It should become someones sig I reckon:p

You used to tell me DC5's were your least favourite type r, that I might as well just get an EP3 and you'd never consider a DC5.
:p

LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!!!!!!!

:D

but yea, for many years I thought EK9/DC2 >>>>>>>>>> DC5 and anything with ivtec.

Nice resurrection however....shock horror as product is worth what someone is willing to pay, not what it's perceived value is.

Because we all pay 25pence for Music CDs -_-

Poor Tim, lets hope a bounce back to form is on the cards!

On a seperate note, what happened to Psycrow? No activity for over a year and doesn't appear to be banned? :(
