Iv been in the market for a new card for about a year now, was initially wating for the 5870 to drop in price, but then, as time when by realised that the 6000 series will be round the corner soon so decided to wait.

I have been looking at the 5850, 5870 and gtx 470.

Just seen today you can get a:

xfx 5850 @ 199
His 5870 @ 287
Zotac 470 @ 235

Any one care to comment. Any of these the stand out card to by at the price?

I do game at 1920x1200 resolution so I do need a powerfull card.

Was tempted by the GTX 470, as its some where inbetten the 5850 and 5870, but will have better tesselation performance for future dx 11 titles in the future.

Is this something I should use as a metric to decided between cards?

More than likely I will not be overcloking the cards, as I dont know how, nor do I want to brek anything.

Should I just wait for the 6000 series?

6000 series wont be out till Q1 of 2011 so might aswel get one of these now imo. I'm in the same boat but i have my mind set on a 5870 :)

zotac noisey under load but can clock well.. xfx 5850 cant be vcore altered so wont overclock as well (well thats theprobably overclocking ability each card is different but u take a gamble with any on oc ability)

Im not sure what to beleive.

Benchmarks seems so inconsitant.

Different websites, show different things, and then I watch a video review on you tube, and it shows something different again.

The gtx 470 is a good card?

Some websites say the 5850 is better than it. Other sites say the gtx 470 acan keep up with the 5870?

Bangs head against wall!

GTX470 has smaller size of fan and install mini-HDMI "C" and 5870 has big fan that give extra cooler and using normal size of HDMI - I already sold GTX470 and bought ASUS HD5870 V2 that seem good card (installed on my Crosshair Formula IV mobo)... GTX470 running 1280MB and 5870 using 1GB but that up to you which one you go for it..

it is a good card, the problem with the reviews is, have they been done or re-done using the newer 2** series drivers?

Ok, just found a review based on the latest Nvidia drivers. Seems in general the 470 doesnt get any better frames than the 5850.

Looking at these benchmarks here:

(for some bizarre reason the forum doesnt let me past h e x u s in to the link!)

£234 for gtx 470 while they were keeping it £300? Well that annoys me, and just after I bought my 5850...meh I paid £230 for reference 5850 that overclocked past 5870 performance so I am a happy with my purchase despite crazy nvidia price drop.

Finally that silly card costs what it should have since he begging *roll eyes*

if you read a good review and then count the fps increase from newer drivers then yeah the 470 keeps up with the 5870

It definitely wins in minimum fps and features, wins in cost, wins in Price/Performance hence why quite a lot of sites recommend buying the 470, cheaper than the 5870 but can beat it when both are oc'd, however there is the heat and noise issue but as long as you wear headphones it's fine

Take no notice of the above comments, stock 470 is nowhere near the 5870 and the min FPS is just complete nonsense, yes you will find the odd game where ATI will have a lower min than Nvidia but there will be another game where ATI has better min, check review out below with the latest drivers form Nvidia, yes the 5870 has a slight overclock on but it is well faster than the 470 and gets the GOLD award from the reviewer.

Here's another even more recent review of 470 with a slight overclock.

http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/foru...gabyte-geforce-gtx-470-oc-edition-review.html

And another review showing detailed min FPS results with Nividias updated drivers, clearly the 5870 has way better min FPS than a 470.

Not sure how many of your threads ive replied to lately regarding you getting a new card?

Having owned a 470 and 5870 and for the price you can get these cards now i would get a 470.

But if i remember correctly you were concerned about noise in your previous threads

If noise is top priorty for you then i would then get the 5870 as under load its a lot quieter than the 470.
