I am gonna build my First PC ever in about 1 month and i will have the antec Antec Dark Fleet DF-85, i want to know how will you connect the fans ( 6 120mm LED fans and 2 140mm fan) to the MOBO or the PSU and does the MOBO have enough connections my PUS will be a antec 1200w true power quattro PSU, and do i need to buy any extra conversion cables and also i would like to fit in 2 cold cathodes :)

A lot of case fans come with 3 pin to molex converters so you can connect them up that way, the downside being that you cant set manual fan speeds in the system bios.

You can however buy fan controllers which are also usually molex powered but allow you to set custom fan speeds.

Edit: if not something like this usually does the trick - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CB-030-AK

The case i will be using (Antec Dark Fleet Series DF85) comes with settings at the back of case for the case fans ( the fans that come wit the case if you want to add the optional 120mm on the side of case, the speed of that fan cannot be controlled), low, medium, or high. Will thier still be a problem?

Use the psu to power the case fans using 3 pin adaptors

any particular reason you're planning on using such an ott psu?

you may wanna post a spec me thread at some point just to make sure you're not spending more money than you need to

i am definatley going to upgrade!

in the future to another gigabyte 5870 in crossfire and another 6GB of ram kit, so my specs would be when i fully upgrade (im talkin couple of months after build) 12gb of ram, 2 5870 in crossfire, 2 160gb SSD, and 2 1TB Western digital HDD 6gb/s (black), and the fans that i mentioned however the fans that i will install together when i build the PC.

also will their be enough 3 pin adapters and connectors to power up the case fans, i also STILL WANT THEM TO BE CONTROLLED BY THE BUILT IN FAN SPEED CONTROLLER IN THE CASE

Even with the spec you listed there's no need at all for a 1200W PSU.

What PSU would you reccomend? or what wattage do you reccomomend?

i did a PSU calculator and it said i needed a 1050W minimum to run this PC?

i will also have my ipod, HD camcorder charging of the PC

you still don't need that psu, 850w at the most i would imagine

psu calculators aren't great half of the time a Corsiar TX/HX 750/850 would do ya

if you have enough adaptors then you can run them all on one loop together (adaptors can be had for like £3) not sure about hooking it up to the fan controller though as i've never used one before

it is not a fan controller, its the same system as the antec 1200 case had just knobs at the back of case, so all the case fans could be set at low medium or high?, and 850W that is crazy man i see people on youtube with similar specs with same PSU? and also i want to know HOW I CONNECT MY FANS SO THEY WILL WORK ? NONE OF THEM COME WITH ADAPTERS JUST THE 3 PIN CABLE are there 6 fans slots on the MOBO that i stated in my first post

ok, i dug up a few pics, and it seems that the fans that are included with the case are powered by 4 pin molex adaptors (ie, they plug directly into your PSU). They still make use of the controllers that come with the case, but you wont be able to plug them into the motherboard and control them from there.

As far as i can see, the motherboard has 5 fan headers - 3 standard 3pin and 2 PWM 4 pin (this is not the same as molex). One of the 4pins is for the cpu fan, so that gives you 4 extra non molex fans to plug in. These CAN be controlled by the motherboard. you can buy splitters to run two or more fans off the msame header, but you cant controll the speeds seperately.

As for the PSU, i have to agree, 1200w is overkill. 850w is the sweetspot. 1000w tops if you're not happy with other suggestions.

hope that helps

thanks you for replying especially thingemajib,i also got another question to ask you i will have the noctua NH-D14 as a cpu cooler and use both fans that come with it is well, so will thier still be enough connections to go around?

can you show me a PSU that will support the amount of fans that i need and my CPU COOLER + option to crossfire :) please

for the cooler, id run both fans off the same CPU fan header using a splitter, as they are both cooling the same thing. I wouldn't worry about there being enough connections. you can daisy chain all the case fans together and run them all off the same molex connector (you'll still be able to control these ones seperately though).

and basically, you dont really need to worry about your psu not being able to cope with that many fans (each fan will use about ~5w. nuff said). As for reccomendation, im sticking with whats already been said: the Corsair HX 850W or its 1000w bigger brother. These are both modular as well

edit for davieg: :p

i seem to recall thats a decent brand (read a good review of the 800w one aages ago), and its cheaper. not modular though. I guess its upto you if you want modular cables or not.

it is modular!!!! it says so in the title, and sorry to **** you off but can you find me a very good 100w PSU, probs the best one overclockers that has to offer?

oh, yeah, my bad it is modular XD

now i dont know with is the bestest of the best, but the corsairs get mentioned a LOT round here so im sticking with them. however, if it is too pricey, then i reckon the antec is a viable alternative
