Anyone else smoke hookahs on here? I know there was one other guy who was quite into it but he got PBd, anyone else?

I'm excited! Birthday's coming up and my girlfriend's got me this:

It's a Khalil Mamoon trimetal.

I've been after one of these for AGES. It was up as a blue one but I got in touch and got the guy to swap out bits so it had an orange vase and a red hose (orange hoses I can't find anywhere, I'll find one at some point). Hose in the picture is my mega big KM one that came with another hookah, but I'll be using my Nammor hose with it anyway when I shmoke it.

For anyone that doesn't know what they are, they're pipes for flavoured tobacco. No I don't smoke drugs out of them, yes people do do that sometimes, yes I also smoke cigarettes and yes I know it's terribly dangerous and I deserve a slow lingering death :p

I do it because they're pretty, I like the taste, I like the ritual, and I like buying them (as you can see).

I'm sold! Where did you get them from? They look mighty fine.

Serious face time, what's the deal with getting various flavours out of them? I hear of strawberry, chocolate and even banana flavoured hookas - mostly in shisha shops which are now banned no thanks to the madness of the Labor machine...
 
I havent got one but a mate has, like the one in the second pic, he even managed to pack it in his suitcase when we went on holiday! Ice and pepper mint tobacco is gooooood
 
It's everywhere here. Shisha bars, lots of restaurants supply them after meals, shops sell old ones, new ones, antique ones... all sorts :)

I could always grab some flavours if you're having trouble finding it. I doubt it'd cost too much to post back.

I buy my pipes mostly from hookahshop.co.uk, or a couple of US sites. Only really buy bigger orders from US sites tobacco and stuff. I get my tobacco in Queensway in London a lot too.

The flavour's in the tobacco. Basically from top to bottom:

The clay bowl is where you put your tobacco. You then cover it with foil and poke holes in it. Then the stem leads down, into the vase, into the water. The smoke goes from the tobacco in the bowl, down the stem, into the water, up out of the water, through the hose and into your mouth.

The smoke's made by putting hot charcoal on the foil at the top, which heats the tobacco and makes it smoke :)
 
I know quite a few people who have these in my university... never tried them though... What's the difference between these and smoking cigarretes in terms of damage it causes?

Are you sure they're banned? There's loads down here :confused:

At least three in the area which we frequent.

They can only smoke them outside now, which has really hurt the bars. If anyone has them inside I think it's herbal only, but I'm fairly sure you can't even smoke that inside?

Whereabouts do you 'frequent', by the way? I'm not after bars to smoke in, I like doing it at home, but my girlfriend lives up your way in Bow. Do you know anywhere really close that sells it? I usually go to Queensway/Edgware Road.

You do it much less often, but for a big long session (40 minutes to a couple of hours). The nicotine content is reasonably low but as above, you smoke a large volume of it. Some insist it's way better, I don't think per smoke it is at all but yes you do it much less often. Put it this way, I don't consider it a 'healthier' option to cigarettes. I do intend to give up the fags and smoke hookah still, but that's because it's actually fun, not just £6 a day for no good reason.

Occasionally have some at a friends, but it makes me feel ill after about 20 minutes unfortunately.

Yep, Shisha/sheesha is the egyptian word for the pipe, lots of people use it to describe the tobacco as well including me although it's technically wrong. Not 100% but I think shisha pretty much just means 'glass' from what I read.

When I was in Egypt they all called it a sheesha.

Hookah, shisha, nargile, nargileh, arguileh, lots of words for it.

Edit: just checked, shisha means glass in Persian apparently.

My GF & her sister have a couple. I don't smoke but it's nice to chill out with some orange or cola flavour molasses lying in the sun or at a little gathering.
