will the 5830's drop in price now the 5850's have?

I would say so. They are becoming like the 465, reduntant. They will be completely unused if they don't drop in price.

I really hope they do, I fancy a second one and if they drop to around £120, I might just be able to justify it. :P

What? how on earth are they becoming redundant. After gtx 460 release it only reinforced it's position.

Its still better than 470 and 460 and still is at a decent price...the £200 ones anyway.

No no no sir, I think we won't see a price drop on 5850 below £199 until 6000 series will come out.

When's VAT tax increase will kick in by the by?

A 5850 is not better than a 470, and is of course better than a 460, but it's a fair amount more (though a 460 is not that far behind, like a 5850 is not that far behind a 470).

He said the 5830 and GTX465 are becoming redundant, which is true.

Prices (as I see it should be): Actual prices (cheapest OcUK):
5770: £115 £117.99
5830: £140 £164.49
GTX460 768MB: £140 £152.74
GTX465: Why? £176.24
GTX460 1GB: £160 £179.99
5850: £200 £199.99
GTX470: £230 £234.99
5870: £280 £287.86
GTX480: £330 £387.74

Seems about right to me... (and getting closer actually, besides the GTX480, which is still some way off).

5830s redundant? I think not tbh. Any card that will run Crysis above 30fps regardless of settings isn't redundant if you ask me. I believe the 5770s struggle on the lowest settings at 1920x1200, so if anything they're the cards becoming redundant according to my little yardstick. :P

I think they're redundant as in:

5770 is only just over £100, so stays in the low-mid range, and has no competition. The 5830 is nearly as much as the GTX460 1GB, which is better in every game I saw it tested in, and trades blows with the GTX460 768MB, which is cheaper.

If you already have a 5830, then it's not redundant (or if you have a love of ATI), but for the 'bang for buck, I don't care about brand, Physx, SLI/Crossfire etc' crowd, it may as well be.

A GTX480 for £330? Where from?

5770 is actually more around 130-140 mark than "just over 100 ".
Just over 100 would be 100-105/110. And there isn't much a jump from 140 mid range 5770 to 165 for 5830.

I think they're priced well and won't drop below 160quid because if they did then they will need to discount the whole range all together which isn't going to happen before 6xxx come out most likely.

You could say the 460 is not much more than the 5830 but then the 5850 isnt either, and then 2x 5770.

I'd say their price is fine now, you get the edge over 5770, with some OC can get 5850+ performance for just around 160quid and you save a bit of cash from 5850.

What I'd like to see someday is nvidia dropping their prices to normal lvl but that's probably not going to happen.

I really think the 5830 1GB to at least drop to £140 or less, consider a GTX460 768MB is faster than it and cheaper than it (some places sell the Palit GTX460 768MB at £144), and the 5770 1GB should drop to the £100~£110 mark.

Apart from the sub £130 5770s at OcUK, the cheapest being £117? The point I was making was that it's ATI who need to react at the moment, with the price drops in the 470s (I see them regularly at <£270, and of course the £235 one at OcUK), and the introduction of the 460.

Yeah, you can now buy a 5850 for almost the same price I paid for mine in October last year.

That's got to be the best value card I've ever bought.
