heavily pregnant woman drinking and smoking

Fair enough.

Do you know in America they FORCE all companies to add folic acid to any bread they produce. So that basically all pregnant women will get folic acid in them as they eat any bread (as will everyone else, which does no harm to them).

Also for a while the UK government was seriously talking about adding a little flouride to all drinking water .. as they reckon the nations teeth would all get better. Of course people would lose the right to 'flouride free water out of the tap' and in the US they have never tasted bread without folic acid in it. In practice the folic acid is effectively being forced on them 'for their own good'.

Just out of interest .. would you be in favour of, or against, governments mass effectively forcing the population down such healthy routes? Making it nigh-on impossible for them to choose to not consume certain things? I'm not talking about 'give the population loads of information', I'm talking about 'All tap water WILL have flouride in it for everyone. full stop.'

Again, it's one of the more difficult 'freedom' questions .. just wondering where you stand out of interest ..

You do know the milk in this country is fluoridated right?

Put it this way when the child grows old enough to understand, it will know that from the minute it was conceived mum didn't love it enough to do her best for the child, instead thought that self gratifiication was more important, not thinking that she was slowly turning her own flesh and blood into an alcoholic smoker, wondering why it won't stop crying because it is going through so much pain from withdrawal...I shall get off my high horse.

Shall I tell you something even more wild.

Theory has it when a baby has bacteria .. during breast feeding it passes some of that bacteria - like - micro amounts .. back to the mother through the nipple when feeding.

THEN the mother produces the specific anti-body required, and passes it back to the baby at a later breast-fed.

Mental eh? Bet you thought it was a one-way deal! *

* This may be an urban myth, but I was told it from a reliable source. Can anyone confirm?

There are huge benefits for breastfeeding for the child, and links between formula milk and type 2 diabetes. Also, something people don't realise is that we should be mimicking how primates treat their young, due to our social nature skin to skin contact with the mother is highly needed and that sleeping in a seperate room from the parents is worse for the infant than being in a close proximity.

and I think someone told me that if a mother is holding a child that is quite cold, the mothers body temperature will increase to warm the child up!

I'm sure she has probably been drinking and smoking heavily throughout the whole pregnancy. At least I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.

I agree that the same ways that there are abortion laws there should be some sort of 'intentionally' harming your baby kind of law as well. Because she literally is ruining the poor child setting it up for all sorts of difficulties (assume she's been drinking from the start) and who is going to end up having to deal with that to make sure that the child will function when it grows up? Everyone else but the mother. Education is a start and can help the problem. But you can't teach everyone so in my opinion sometimes you just have to refuse people..

One of the reasons that women intentionally smoke when pregnant is that it can often reduce in a smaller birth weight.

That's disgusting. What stupid cows think that smaller birth weight is going to do the baby much good? Oh yea it's "easier" to give birth (Again, I assume. Hard to imagine what they would want the child to be smaller for) Don't care about the consequences

*snip* and in the US they have never tasted bread without folic acid in it..
Huh?

That's like saying I've never tasted a proper ale because Budweiser is the biggest seller in the US. :p

And I can't imagine 15 micrograms of folic acid having much affect on the flavour of a slice of bread, much as flouride doesn't change the flavour of water.

Anyway, back on topic, I'm betting she was just a weirdly-shaped cow.

Personally I think she should be slapped and taught some respect for life, hers and especially her baby's! How can someone be so selfish ;/

Note: The following are just my random weirdass thoughts, nothing serious -.-

I was thinking about this the other day: how viable/correct it would be to regulate child birth and parenting. In the same way as driving, you're responsible for other (new) lives than your own and I just thought there are a lot of bad parents out there and it's sad that a newborn life has no choice or guarantee that the parents they are being born to are even capable. So I thought imagine if expecting parents had to qualify for a baby? Maybe by sitting a test to prove they could provide a healthy level of childcare, minimum finance for a healthy living, be of sound character (non violent) etc. Obviously lots to consider ie. non-married couples, what to do with bad parents, etc, but I really find it sad how many parents are really bad at parenting. Would we allow people to be bad doctors just because they thought one night that they want to be doctors? Responsibility is important and unfortunately not everyone can exercise it.

I wouldn't have served her. Stupid cow.

I can't really talk as I smoke and drink I suppose but my dad quit smoking when I was born and I will probably do the same.
