New Car - 4-5k

The 5 cylinder petrols are not economical at all, so expect mid to high 20s unless it's 70 mph on cruise control.

Very comfortable, solid but ultimately a bit on the dull side.
Servicing isn't particularly cheap at main dealer prices.

Other than that, a lot of car for the money.
The diesels are decent but good ones are probably just out of your budget.

Thanks for the reply, what model would you recommend?

Also, the S60 looks nice too, would this be a better car? For the man in me the 2.4D looks very nice, but are running costs going to be VERY high and what about reliablility?

Thanks

Hmm, Looks like I can push my budget to approx. 6k.

Any recommendations for this range?

You can get some nice Jag X Types, are these any good?

Thanks

Are the 3.0s not quite sought after so more expensive to buy? Also, there are a lot of 3.0s with the AWD system which can be troublesome.

Still, they are mostly mondeo underneath so parts and things aren't expensive, neither are they very complicated

Any opinions of the Volvo S60 2.4 D5? Bigger than the S40 which looks a little small for what I need.

Lovely looking car and the interior looks solid and comfortable. Size wise, this looks as if it would be ideal for a small family.

All the 2.5s are 4 wheel drive as well, its just the rubbish diesels and 2 litre ones that are 2 wheel drive :)
