Hi,

I am familiar, from my research here and elsewhere, that the HTC Desire is considered to be one of (if not the) best Android phones available. I know the main competition to this is the Samsung Galaxy S, however for the sake of argument I am only considering the HTC Desire.

I would be very interested to hear what "real life" differences are between the HTC Desire and the HTC Wildfire? On paper the HTC Desire is obviously much better but I wonder how this translates into reality. What can be done on the Desire that cannot on the Wildfire? What can the Desire do (specifically) better than the Wildfire?

I am now at the end of my contract duration with my T-Mobile G1 and so I am sure any Android phone will feel a step up. Would this be notable on both the Desire and Wildfire?

Initially I was very keen to ensure I got the "best" phone, but considering differences in price, etc, I am giving this a second thought. My logic is that whilst I may get the HTC Desire just because on paper the HTC Desire is the better phone, it obviously will not be for the entirety of a 24 month contract. For this reason I am thinking that if the only reason I'm considering the HTC Desire is because I read that individuals only just say it's better then this reason will be void at some point before my next renewal anyway.

So, go ahead, what are the major differences between the HTC Desire and the HTC Wildfire?

Thank you! :)

If you like web browsing the Wildfire's Resolution: 240 x 320 QVGA will blow.

Desire has 480 x 800 and is a joy to use.

Go for the Desire if you can. The Wildfire is good, but it's really only an entry level smartphone, whereas the Desire is a beast.

I went to one of my local stores yesterday to have a look at the Desire. Salesman said we have sent them all back and now have the Wildfire. When I asked why they had been sent back he told me they had a lot of faults with the Desire and the Wildfire was a better phone.
At that point I turned round and left the shop. I made my Desire purchase elsewhere.

I'm still waiting on a phone call from tmob about the wildfire being in stock. :(

There have been a lot of threads about this already, in short -

The Desire destroys the Wildfire, the Wildfire is for women.

:p

Mate's just got a Wildfie, and the screen resolution's terrible, you can see every pixel, looks like an old ZX Spectrum, and made to look even worse next to my Galaxy S, lol!

I have the HTC Legend, and the screen on it is HVGA (320x480) which is just about okay for browsing. Anything below that is going to seriously suck the big one.

The Legend is a generally higher specced phone than the Wildfire, and I occasionally find myself wanting it to be quicker. Seriously, don't buy the Wildfire. If the screen was better, then it wouldn't be so bad. Except it isn't better, so it'll be crap.

the wildfire is a great little phone for the money.

people here don't really seem able to take into consideration that the desire and wildfire are aimed at two completely different markets (top end and budget).

of course the desire is the "better" phone (faster cpu, more ram, much better screen, access to more apps), BUT...for the money, the wildfire is a tough act to beat. OK the screen res is low, but it doesn't make it impossible to browse the web. far from it.

I have one and I'm chuffed to bits with it.

I would only get the wild fire if A I have not used a faster android phone since I have played about with a desire, than you know..

if you can afford it get the desire if you can than it would be the wildfire, in which case the wild fire has to be better than my current W995. for internet at least
