IMO I don't see the point of spending more than £2k on a first car when a large proportion of 17 year old drivers will damage them in some way. I'd suggest a cheap 206 or Clio tbh.

Of course, this is just my opinion and if you have the money to spend higher, then go for it.

Tbh it is only the idiots who smash their cars.

Myself & 99% of my mates have not had any smashes in them. If she is sensible there is no reason why she couldn't be driving around in a 30k car if the budget was there!

I'd say more than 50% of my friends who were driving before the age of 19 at the very least had a small bump, their fault or not. I'm lucky enough not to be one of them.

The thing is this as someone said earlier.

I dont think she will be writing it off, so what's the difference in fixing parking bumps on a 6k car or a 2k car, the cost is the same.

Oh well they have had a day of looking at scabby Minis, back now with long faces :(

Bear in mind the yearly cost of insurance in the budget. Over three years the cost of the car is likely to be less than the cost of insurance.

Maybe check out my earlier list of group 1 insurance cars (and maybe group 2 and 3 too) then check the cost of insurance. The overall cost may extend to a much nicer (newer) car.

Andi.

Looks good, ask if it has TLC, which was about £500 when bought new but meant the first 8 services or 80k were all paid up for apparently.

Also Ipod (no doubt she'll want this sooner or later), one of the packs came with all the stuff installed to play songs through your Ipod, otherwise it's quite an expensive job.

I think there were two types of TLC actually 5years/50k and 8years/80k.

When I was talking to someone at Mini she said most had at least the 5years/50k as it was only about £300.

Nice one i shall pass that on, they are going to do the dirty deed and pick it up tomorrow.

I pod, whats wrong with CD's :)

I had a mk2 Cortina on the drip 5 quid a week to my mate :)

Friend had a mk2 lotus cortina (unfortunately with just a 1.6 lump in as the original engine had been destroyed by the previous owner) back in the day (80's! I'm not that old(ish)). Absolutely loved it to bits. Would love one of those now but can't afford the 20 odd grand a good one can cost :(

Mine was a 1600E in a burgundy colour with a bronze bonnet strangely enough :)

You'd get a damn nice X308 XJR for that ...oh wait ...17 and a girl. I really have no idea :p ... the best car you say she actually seems to like is the Mini really. What about the Mazda MX5 though ? ...I haven't read the whole thread so I apologise if this was already suggested and discounted.
