As thread title really... in the eastern sky around 20-30 degrees up from horizon.

At first I thought it was Venus but its too late for that? Don't recall seeing it this bright before?

Thoughts?

Google Sky Map says...

Ok well my mobile obviously had a mare with the thread title!!

what it mean to say was:

"Altair looks very bright tonight??"

Google Sky Maps told me what I was looking at was the star Altair but it was verrryy bright last night - more than I've seen before and I didn't really know why!

PS not a plane/ etc lol

funnily enough, I was out last night on the east coast ready to photograph the sunrise this morning, and saw what you're referring to - yes, the planets are up, but if what we saw was the same ( about that time ), I think it was most likeley a satellite - because it appeared for a few moments, and then got dimmer and dimmer before just vanishing.

I checked the ISS times a few days ago, nothing listed for my home in Nottinghamshire, so unlikeley to have been that.

I'm assuming this is what I noticed late last night whilst walking the dog, it was indeed very bright, looked a lot higher up in the sky than 30° to me though.

Nope! no deal sorry!! I was driving home up the A90 for over 45 minutes and it was there the whole time... according to Google Sky Maps on my HTC it was where Altair was in the sky...

Definately not a satellite! Jupiter may be a possibility though....

I mean 30' as in 90' would be straight above your head, making this just less than 45' angle?

I'm in NE Scotland if that helps things!
