When typing, my HTC Desire keeps replacing the word 'if' with 'of'. I can't stop it doing this. I've tried manually selecting 'if' from the options many times but it won't learn and associate in future. I've even tried adding 'if' to the custom dictionary but to no avail. What can I do?

Are you using the default application? I installed Handcent from recommendation here, and it seems to work ok. Might have a different effect.

Yes I am. I'd rather stick with it though. And tbh, if Handcent uses the same dictionary as the rest of android, it'll suffer the same issue. Surely there must be a way to reset the text prediction.

Just tried this on mine and it always sticks with 'if'.
Maybe its the touch calibration kicking in?
Settings > Language and keyboard > Touch imput > Text input > calibration tool

No change :(

There isn't an android keyboard app.

Ye I found that through some googling and reset it. It's deleted my dictionary, but hasn't unlearnt the replacing of 'if' with 'of'.

Could someone with a Desire just confirm that this is just me having this issue? The word needs to be typed mid-sentence - ie. not with a capital 'I'.

Yep mines goes to if every time.
Have you tried going into the user dictionary and seeing if of is added, and deleting it.
I have seen a similar problem on the android forum that someone had a month ago, is that you?
If not they didn't solve it either, even with a factory reset.

Nope, I've wiped the dictionary and still makes no difference.

No that wasn't me. Bummer!

Mine also does 'if' properly.

Can you just sanity check that when you are typing if, the 'i' flags up as you type (and not the 'o')? It might not be the auto correct it might be miscalibration.

Mine goes to "of" most of the time, I just select "if" in the the suggestions, no big deal.

Sometimes the context sensitive ruleset kicks in and it selects "if" correctly. For example, I typed "however," and it selected if correctly.

It's not just you! Mine does this as well, it is SO annoying! it doesn't make any sense. It's not correcting it grammatically, its just poor programming!:mad::mad:

Nice to know it's not just me. I should think a factory reset would fix, but I'm not willing to do that. I think I'll just have to hold out for future improvements

Happens here too, I'm now used to clicking the correct word instead of pressing space.

There is probably an app that does things differently though, but it doesn't bother me much so I'm sticking with it!
