Hey guys, I'm looking at getting a new graphics card and have been looking at a few. The first one i have been looking at is the new GTX 460 from gigabyte or MSI. As theres not many reviews on them do you think this is a good bet? I have about £200 to spend on a card but the cheaper the better.

The next is the XFX 5850 from overclockers for £200 i believe it is the reference one so what you think about it?

The last one is the HIS ICooler non turbo and turbo. They are a little bit more expensive but i am willing to push a bit more money in for more performance. They are the same price but ones a turbo what's that about? I dislike the turbo due to the modern warfare 2 sticker on it but hopefully i would be able to take that off some how.

Basically Im looking at getting a card for around £200 which is quiet and offers good performance. The cheaper the better. My screen resolution will be 1680x1050+

GTX 260,Overclock it to roughly 800Mhz and your have 5850 speeds and more.
Reports are these cards overclock really well.

ok changed the signature. which 460 do you think the gigabyte or msi?

Both have had good reports over in the states, they are both hard to buy in the UK at the moment i think 1GB models that is.

Although i do think a etailer in Sheffield have the MSI cyclone model which looks like a brilliant cooling solution

They can be had for roughly the same price. So a clocked 5850 would be the ticket in this case, right?

I've been looking for the 1024mb MSI and Gigabyte 460 cards and nothing has shown up yet. The coolers on the reference cards are LOUD.

I think I'm going to go with a 5850, personally.

can you get a 5850 for £180?

OP looking at your screen res you will prob get away with a 768gb model GTX 460 which is even cheaper £155-£160

Less than £200 for a 5850 isn't far off is it.

All but 26p then £199.74

I may be wrong but you could overclock a GTX 460 768gb and get near enough 5850 speeds and save nearly £50.

A 5850 is a superb card but im trying to save the OP money for his screen res

I'm still trying to figure out which one I want. I'm waiting on a refund that's taking forever and I have till sometime next week to make my mind up.

Some headroom on the resolution would be nice to have in case of monitor upgrades, or is that false economy on my part?

Thinking of pre ordering the MSI GTX 460 1gb from a well known website. Do you think at a later date they will still be selling them for a can SLI them up? thats if its worth it with a i5 set up.

I would avoid the 768Mb models as they have been crippled with reduced ROPS and a smaller memory bus, if you must get a 460 get the full fat 1Gb cards.

The only problem with the 460 1Gb at the moment is it's around about the same price as HD5850 since the 5850's have dropped back to there original RRP but doesn't give the same performance. I would be looking at some tasty discounts on the 460 in the medium term.

just ordered a MSI GTX 460 from a well known website. What you think ?

Depends on how much you paid, a stock 1gb 460 for about £175/£180 would be a good price to pay. I think your going to be happy with it though no matter what you paid.
