thieving scum!

Cleaners don't seem very reliable or honest... we got rid of one for being lazy and had to prosecute 3 (2 of them at the same time - brothers) for theft where I work in the last few months.

Nice generalisation.

Unfortunately a lot of people think cleaning is the "bottom of the barrel" kind of job, when in fact it requires a lot of common sense, dedication and character to perform it well. What that means is that everybody thinks they can do it, when from experience, a lot of people just can't hack it as a cleaner.

It's easy to be judgemental when you're going to work in your suit, or sitting at your desk in your office, or standing behind a till, but if you took the time to realise the kind of position being a cleaner puts you in, I don't think you'd be so quick to judge.

I'm no thief. If I find a wallet with ID in it, I'll hand it in. If I were to find a mobile phone, I'd do the same. Yes, there are people who would take things that don't belong to them (specifically knowing of a way to return it to it's owner) - but I wouldn't go so far to say that "Cleaners don't seem very reliable or honest" just as I wouldn't say that "People who work in an office are stuckup morons".

where do you work?

I'm purposely not mentioning this due to the immaturity of certain members of this forum (previous incident).

Nice generalisation.

I'm not being judgemental but I'm none too happy with cleaners atm. I had to do half the job of the original guy that was here when I started because he wasn't doing his job, the temp replacements got off with over 6 grands worth of stock (mostly laptops) before we caught them and we are currently wasting time on legal action over the latest one that could be better spent.

Although in this instance it does sound as though it's been nicked, it would be plausible that they used the phone to try and contact the owner (e.g. look for recent contacts and ask who's phone it is, look for an entry like "mum" or "dad" etc...

but they didnt they phoned a pub @6:41am which is probably their other job a pub my son would have no reason to even know the number off

To some people $50,000 is just pocket change... just like you or I would keep ~£50-100 or so in our wallets.

I'm a student, so £40 cash withdrawal a week unfortunately :(

Even if I was the richest person in the world wouldn't dare walk around with $50,000 cash in public even if $50,000 in only 1 minute worth of my earnings... simply because that is just begging for trouble.

Hi there *waves*

And I'd rather be cleaning than working in a office... I'd make more money sure, but I'd probably want to kill myself as it doesn't interest me.

I can see where you're coming from. Cleaning up other people's **** is very 'interesting'. ;)

Yeah it is... it's just that I prefer to work with my hands, than sat at a desk all day.

Bit more on topic... as a cleaner I'd hand in a phone so would all the others I work with...

You don't need to be in a manual, low paid job to be a thieving git - just have a very blurred sense of morals.

With regards to poor cleaners, you get what you pay for. We have some rubbish cleaners at my work, but then I'm sure the company pays as little for the contracts as it can.

I agree with Gagkt here, it is a strong issue the way society judges lower-class people in general, only since the 1980s have our court systems and people reflected a a fair view upon people. For example: it was okay for a white-collar worker to commit fraud and steal thousands and thousands of pounds, he would most likely get a slap on the wrist or 6 months to a year imprisonment, but if a petty thief dared to shoplift he would get 5-7 years.

In medieval ages his hand would have been chopped off and nothing would have happened to the fraudster.

I'm no cleaner but, is it okay that we all jump to conclusions because of someone's occupation? Isn't cleaning a hard working honest paying job? Everyone is innocent until proven guilty and everyone has the right to a fair trial, assumptions of people based on race, wealth or anything else are discriminative and quite frankly, wrong.

im a cleaner, contracted special disinfection's in hospitals, i wouldn't thieve and would be a little miffed to have people think im morally compromised because of my choice of career (i use that term loosely).
i do a good job, i have to given the nature of my work though i do get paid well for it, if you pay someone a pittance to do a job no one wants to do and have a negative attitude towards them because of it do you really expect them not to try and get every extra they can? im not condoning it at all but you do get what you pay for.

If it's a club then he probably arrives and leaves the club when it's closed, seeing how he is a morning cleaner.

Obviously there is a place in the club for cleaners to put stuff in that they find... or are you suggesting they clean the rooms without actually entering the clubs. Ahem.
