Read this earlier, if he was able to make his way to Saudi Arabia or Qatar, would the British embassy there issue him with a temporary passport?

If i was rich, i'd just pay for his flight home. He could pay be back, like paying off a credit card. Ah...

He can't go on any flights, they've taken his passport off him. He's essentially in a nation-wide open prison as he cannot get any jobs or get any flights because the passport is a means of identification for them. Why the British Embassy hasn't helped him yet is beyond me. It's a pretty barbaric thing to do, even if he was acting dubious with his money.

Ah i missed that bit.

I'm sure he'll get a lot of help now the BBC has told the story. Perhaps that was the point - shed some light on how things can be when they go wrong.

Soo these pricks take his passport...
expect him to pay them back with money he cant earn WITHOUT his passport.

Wont give it back so he can sort it out.

Basicaly there holding two guns to his head.

They dont care what he does.

Thats pathetic someone go over there and shove a ****ing stick up there ceos ass will you.

What about his passport? Surely taking that away and inhibiting his ability to do literally anything must invoke some sort of response?
The British Embassay won't want to be seen aiding someone who has broken the law leave the country, remember it's the Dubai police themselves that have his passport.

It sounds like it was seized legally, if the bank had made court procedings against his debt/travel then he technically shouldn't have left then I can see how they would take his passport away on his return, just in case.

I think the wording is just probably BBC crap/selective reporting in all honesty.

Even with a passport, he may have trouble getting out of the airport without sorting his problems with the authorities.

^^

There basicaly leaving the guy out to die^^ mate.

Without his passport there is NOTHING he can do.

Well he shouldn't have conducted his affairs like a **** then in all honesty. This happens day in day out all over the world! People get stuck elsewhere for years!

Yes, it isn't great. Maybe it was best he didn't return, if he was aware of the proceedings there.

There is nothing no one can do, the embassy don't want to know because the saudi state seems to be acting legally.. The British Embassy isn't a jim'll fix it.

Well, ultimately he should have thought about that before he illegally left the country. If you're going to go to these sorts of countries to work, then you really need to watch what you do as it's a completely different culture over there. One of the big differences is the way they treat people who get into debt. Worst case he could have ended up locked up in some hell hole prison like a lot of other people who fall into debt do.

It would cause a diplomatic incident if it was found that the British Embassay was helping debtors to flee the country.

Yes, and the Saudi authorities are not exactly known to be lenient on much are they?

They flog people and are very strict on public decency etc jail terms for kisses which are longer then people carrying knifes here.. of course other statutes are going to be heavily enforced.

No wonder he sleeps upright!!
