Get a ATI 5870 or Wait for the GTX 485

It is a well know fact Nvidia's drivers are far less buggy than ATI's. No one can deny this.

Is it? go on ati drivers forum go on nvidia drivers forums same old stuff everybody is complaining about drivers.

Look I had both nvidia and ati cards I never had a problem with either.

I am starting to think that this nvidia has better drivers is just a myth.

With every release everybody always whines about drivers on both sides.

never had any problems with nvidia and had their cards since the original GeForce 256

Just went over to ATI 5970 and had nothing but problems (yes on a clean install)

Just about to send it back and going to go for 470 SLI

I had nothing but problems with the forceware drivers and my gtx280, got a 5870 and have had clean hassle free performance ever since. Some people are just unlucky =/

Never had much trouble with either company in games, but i have had some issues with ATI drivers in 3D modeling apps. It's not that ATI have a crap driver team, they just don't have the budget that NV do, or the benefit of years of developer relations.

I never noticed much difference in image quality between the two in games either (in some apps, yes), which is something i still see people talking about to this day.

+1

Regarding IQ I tend to notice that ATI's visuals always look darker, thicker and heavier, in other words a greater divide with contrast. Nvidia's look brighter, lighter. Some of ATI's use of colour in games are very vibrant also. Both look good, just a case of preference.

IQ with ATI is much more vibrant and the image stands out more over Nvidia IQ, it is regarded that ATI have the best AF process currently.

I have to agree, the colours and detail look a lot better on ATI cards.

I have had both and could tell as soon as I plugged my ATI in!

Nvidia do seem to have better AA though.

Ok I just orded one I will probably kick myself in acouple of weeks when the price drops even more or they anounce when the new cards are comeing :D

Main reason I think would be it only having mini displayport connections which most people would need adaptors for, so you have the cost of those and it also being £15 more than the normal XFX 5870.

Still good spot, I hadn't noticed that Eyefinity 6 Edition being that cheap.

Comes with a shed load of displayport adapters, so incorrect.

Well I went for this one over the XFX beacuase i have a 30" monitor I know that in most games the extra RAM dosent make much if any differanace but @2560x1600 there seems to be the odd game that make's extra use of it

So true, do you remember the driver update ATI sent out the other month which stopped the fan from speeding up and killed of a load of video cards? Man what a bulls up that was, I mean green lines are one thing but destroying your own hardware, the driver gods that are Nvidia would NEVER do something so stupid would they!?!

I brought this up in another thread, is it the best card you can get for 300 notes?

That must have only just come down in price, last time I checked the eyefnity 6 cards they were all pushing the £400 mark. In fact that's to cheap, I suspect there might be pricing error there but if it's is true then happy days!

AS for the OP, get another HD5770 for crossfire. If will give you the same if not better performance then a single HD5870. And as far as I'm aware there is no such thing as a GTX485 yet nor is there one on the way and if one did show up it's going to cost an arm and leg and won't deliver much better performance then a HD5870 (a GTX480 is only about 8% faster overall).

The Powercolor Eyefinity 6 has been that price for afcouple of days now and
I cant find any outher 5870 2gb version's anything close to that price so if it is a priceing error then I just got incredibly lucky :P

People dont go to tech support forums to say how wonderful and reliable the drivers have been, so if you base your views solely on their tech forums, the drivers would look pretty bad.

Everyone can have issues with drivers, NVIDIA's just seem to be a bit more fixable, so to speak.

This is coming from someone who is trying out crossfire 4870's today for fun =)
