*Official OMG I got my 460 thread*

If it is and it's quiet under load I'll just grab one of them as it is the cheapest 460 i've seen.

Otherwise I'll be holding on for the Giga.

I've pre-ordered a pair of the Giga for £187 each, just hope they come in stock this week  Guys over on HardForum seem impressed with 1GB Giga in terms of noise, temps and overclocking.

Guru3D have the 1GB MSI review up btw, seems a bit noisy compared to 768mb version.

460s seemed extremely worth getting. But now that a 5850 or 470 or 465 costs barely any more... :(

Though, I feel prices will even out a bit more soon.
It's annoying for me because I was just about to buy one/two, I need a card/s that will last me 2 years and it's an important decision that I have to make correctly - I don't want a loud one either, and I am not ever buying anything by Palit again because they continually take the p**s (460 have the same rubbish fan as my loud/clicking 2008 9800gt cards, both of them started clicking within 6 months).

OK Inno3D 1gb has just arrived and its not the nvidia reference cooler.

Blower? :(

Seriously how hard is it for shops to put the right picture up.

All they have to do is look at the model number on the box!

I think someone needs to mod the MSI card by removing the stock fan and use a 120mm fan and see how that cools the card.

Yeah I'm trying to make the right choice on getting a card too, I cancelled my Palit order and waiting to see whats best to get now. Don't want something too loud or power hungry but a decent 1GB nVidia card :(

I have a 8800GTX OC at the moment which I want to upgrade this year for playing Final Fantasy 14 at good settings.

doesnt have VRM heatsinks neither....

MSI ftloss?

Different heatsink design, its open so no hot air build up, plus the larger fan is blowing right over the VRM's.

Not that the VRM's are really an issue anyway.

Still main point being the Cyclone appears to be louder than the Palit  :(

And I'm assuming that those Palit sound levels are the ones from the cards with the new BIOS that lowers the max RPM under load.

Saying that though it is 10C cooler under load, so you could probably limit the fan lower while maintaining the same temps as the Palit.

Still, looks like our last hope is the Giga.

The important thing to note about the MSI's noise level in the review, is that they state it's just airflow noise. That's something I don't really have a problem with.

High pitched whining fan noises are much more noticeable and penetrating than airflow noises, mainly because the pitch of the noise changes as they ramp up and down, rather than the airflow noise which tends to increase in volume.

This was the problem with the Palit, as even at low speeds you can still hear the whine.

I think it'd be better if these review sites would put up MP3s of the fan noises so we can listen for ourselves. Then we can decide if a card's fan noise is acceptable or not.

That is true, air noise I don't mind so much.

And as I say, you can probably peg that fan speed lower than the profile as due to the bigger cooler and larger fan, it is running a good chunk cooler than the Palit cards.

Might not be a right off yet :D

Yeah its the blower. Its the same as the one Mame had in the other thread. All black with the fan at the far end pushing the air out of the case.

Only had it setup for a short while but so far the idle noise is a bit lower than the 8800GT it replaced. Its much more of an air moving sound than a spinning fan motor... a blower :p

Idle temps read 33C (a bit better than the 60c of the 8800gt :p)

I'm not much of a benchmark person or a heavy gamer really, however I'll try out my heavily graphics modded Oblivion and the FFXIV benchmark.
