Play TV for PS3

the picture quality on play tv is shocking anyway, i would stay away from it, plus you have to have your ps3 on when using it, which will decrease its lifetime, etc.

my tv has built in freeview, although i cannot record, the picture quality is noticeably a lot better, the difference is night and day.

freeview HD only has like 2 channels and its new technology, therefore i would hold off a year or 2 until more channels come out and the prices of the boxes have decreased.

3 HD channels now, and another being BBC1 HD by the end of the year, but that will probably be all as there isnt enough bandwith to do more.

play tv2 which is hd is in the works apparently.

Play TV has great picture quality IMO. I have tried a few different stand alone units and play tv is far superior - maybe your TV has some really good upscaler built in, but that doesn't mean Play TV is no good.

Buh?

I've never had any issues with picture quality from my PlayTV. In fact it's considerably better than any standalone or built in freeview box I've used.

Why not keep your PS3 turned off all together instead of playing games if you're worried about it's lifetime. That's a truly retarded reason to avoid buying something.

I have PlayTV too, would recommend it to anyone. It's a fantastic product and I havn't found a freeview box that I would say is better then it.

i would rather use a freeview box which costs £150 to watch freeview than my launch £550 sony games console, its a very rare 60Gb machine which has backwards compatibility and memory card sockets.

therefore since it is a limited edition special ps3, i dont want it getting damaged/overused on anything else other than gaming. therefore if i want to play dvd's or watch tv i would rather use something else rather than my games console which is more expensive than its alternatives.

for me using my console for anything other than gaming is extra wear and tear on a £550 machine when i could put the same wear and tear on a £150 machine. other people may have cheaper and not limited edition consoles like mine, therefore the same argument wouldnt be valid for them, but for me it is.

the picture quality is also very bad, or so i have found on play tv, my tv was top of the range or thereabouts 2 years ago and cost £1200 which for a 42" is expensive, perhaps the scaler on my tv is better but i can notice the difference when i use the tv and play tv, and play tv looks terrible in comparison.

I think I'll get it anyway and see for my self, I don't really care about it breaking even though mine is also a 60gb model, I probably use it for like 12 hours a month IF a good game comes out that isn't on PC. I've got a 320gb hard drive in it which will be useful for recording things.

You're funny. :D Keep telling yourself that it's rare and limited edition. Who knows? One day it might be worth a fortune!

LOL! I hope you don't actually value that Playstation 3 that also happens to play Playstation 2 games at £550. I don't know why you think it's limited edition or rare, it's no rarer or limited than the other Phats that have now ceased production. You can get a used Playstation 2 for peanuts and combine that with an entry level PS3 and you have mucho spare change left over from that £550 rare, limited edition zomg 60Gb.

thats how much i paid for it

£550 for the ps3 + 2 or 3 games + blu ray + something else

you could only buy a launch console as part of a deal, so you had to pay a lot for one.

the 60gb machines are extremely rare, i could have easily sold this on ebay for more than a new ps3 and pocketed the change, but i decided to keep a hold of it.

i have a launch ps1 - still working

launch ps2 - still working but fans are extremely loud for some reason

launch ps3 - still working fine

so it adds to my collection (launch consoles are usually built better and superior to their counterparts)

60Gb PS3s aren't rare, they are readily avaliable for sale on ebay and a number of forums. There were two in my house until I swapped mine for a slim. They were only £425 at launch, though you could get them cheaper. 2nd hand they're cheaper than slims.

The black chrome 20Gb PS3 is a lot rarer, it actually has full hardware PS2 emulation over the UK 60s half software.

They're not rare. You couldn't have made that much selling it, you'd have made a loss.

... Just lol.

Explains all the faulty ones going for cheap on the bay?
