I herd that microsoft will be offering peopel to downgrade to xp until 2020 at the end of windows 7 lifecycle,so i assume this must mean they are also extending the support lifecycle of secruity updates until 2020 also?

You can't offer people to downgrade to a OS that they don't keep secure right?

MS support a Service Pack for 2 years - so you have at least until 2012 I should think if you upgrade toe Service Pack 3.

And who says they have to offer support? They are just giving you the option until 2020 I assume. Though I would really hope any apps would have been updated to Windows 12 by then! ;)

Wiki says: On April 8, 2014, all Windows XP support, including security updates and security-related hotfixes, will be terminated.

Where did 2020 come from?

2014 is still the date to my knowledge, the date it's finally brown bread.

In 2020 I'm expecting to say things like "woah, remember this" and probably take a picture with my iShades when I dig out a machine with XP installed.

iShades? Pfft, they are sooo 2015. In 2020 it'll be iEye. Apple CiBorgs!

[Or the Apple CiBorg Pro if you're feeling flush]

I am just hoping none of my clients have caught wind of this to be honest. The only way I have managed to get any kind of Windows 7 uptake is via new machines!

The one client who has expressed interest in deploying 7 across the board keeps putting it off! I can't win :(
