image Graphics cards in 10 years time

New service called on live is availible in america right now. Wonder if it will take off. dont think you need a decent pc to run it as it has the settings stored into it for the console version they supposed to be making.

I predict in 10 years pc and console will be one. Whats that thing i have heard about recently. They will just stream games from the net with the best quality graphics for everything. Be like have quad 5970s if it was out now. Forget the name of it? its coming soon i have heard.

Well I hope this doesn`t happen, as this will be the end of the PC.

Yeah it's called onlive, and it's already live right now

you'll probably need a really fast line to get the most out of that though, and there might not be a fast enough response time to be effective in online games, I haven't done much research into it though.

It's like steam, but worse - rent your games lol, plug and play like a console but through a pc experience, jumping to conclusions here but i bet you can't modify anything, install mods etc.

I predict that within 10 years graphics cards will be twice as powerful, 10,000 times larger, and so expensive that only the five richest kings of Europe will own them.

If tech was to continue along a trend vaguely similiar to the last 10 years then you'd be able to play Crysis maxed out on your mobile phone let alone a PC.

It will be virtual reality in 10 years time. There kinda close to that stage now. OH wait, there 3d glasses aint they? well maybe in 10 years we wont need the glasses for 3d and we will have helmets what will connect with your brain and let you see, smell, hear games. And all you will need to power this is a

nvidia 870GTX with a 3000watt powersupply dedicated to the card.

i would expect multicore gpu's and i do mean in a similar fashion to current cpu's, as in 2/4 of the existing cores on the same die/package giving us sli/crossfire on chip.
of course the cores will have to built on a smaller process but overall they will be about the same size as they are now.

I dont thinl OnLive will be th death of pcs as their will no no pc or console gaming. Everyone will be on the same thing with the best graphics you can have. Im sure mods will always exist.

Fast forward 10 years and there won't be graphics cards or CPUs as we know them. General purpose compute units will rule all. Everything will be done in software as in the birth of 3d gaming. IMO of course

I think 'green computing' will become more and more prevalent and important in the next 10 years. Hence, I think we'll see cards being sold on the basis of performance for power consumption, as there are to an extent already.

Cloud computing will also play a part, as said, it's likely that we may not even own a 'PC' as we know it, but instead use a high speed internet connection to connect to a powerful server instead.

PC Gaming will still be around in 10 years time - PC gaming is like Metal never in fashion but never out of fashion and always has legions of fans from different generations. There will always be those gamers who will want to play complicated, involved video games that reward you with satisfaction once you have invested hours into the game (think of games like EVE Online, X3 etc).

As for video cards, there’s going to come a time when something will have to give in terms of design. Video cards are getting longer and longer and at some point we will all need to use full size tower cases or the manufactures will have to find a way to make them shorter or make them fatter instead. Personally I think cards won’t get much bigger from here on out, power usage won’t go up much and as result performance increases won’t be the great leaps we have seen in the past and will be limited to what gains can be gotten from a smaller die shrink and architecture improvements.

I think net based games are the future, I'm sure many here have played QUAKE LIVE. I fear this is will be the furture of PC gaming  and the end of PC/ console hardware, as we know it! I'm sure they will squeeze some form of upgrade path in there to catch your pennies, don't worry.

Sure graphics cards etc will be better in 10 years time but I wouldn't anticipate a quantum leap forward. Take a look at Quake 3 Arena. That was released in 1999 and it still looks quite nice today and that is an 11 year old game!
In general people always seem to think that the short term future will be so much different: we will be leaving on mars with our flying cars etc when in actual fact nothing dramatic changes!

In 10 years they will have reached total photorealism, so no need to upgrade the graphics card again...ever!

Nooooooooo! I'm still looking forward to wearing silver suits, flying around in rocket cars, and having Robby the Robot doing the housework! They promised us that in the fifties dagnabit!
