Hey everyone, sorry to sound like a complete noob but I've had a laptop for the past year or so, and not built myself a complete new system or even done any upgrades for at least 2-3 years so I'm really out of touch with what technologies are good and worth looking at.

In the near future I might be building myself a computer to act as a media centre and gaming rig.

I'd like to have it attached to the main 32" HD TV in the house, would this be possible? And would it be possible to have it connected to a projector if required?

It will be possible to connect to the TV/projector. Just make sure they have a VGA (called d-sub sometimes)/DVI or HDMI port. The graphics card also needs any of these ports.

Do yo have a case still? £600-700 buys a pretty damn good PC these days :) Having a case already would make difference. BigWayne usually can come up trumps with AMD based builds.

HDMI would be the way to go for use with a TV as it carries sound too

well i dont really know much about HTPC cases, but this lot should pack a fair punch. If you already have a copy of windows, then go for a phenom 955 quad core :)

edit: i always forget to add the DVD drive in. My bad

thanks for the spec, looks good. never really heard much about the media cases, what difference do they have over standard cases?

will it be possible to hook this up to a tv at a maximum resolution? as whenever i've tried setting a pc up on a tv i've had had to run it out strange or low resolutions

Gives £30 left over.

Edit: If you needed to fit Win7 into this then got with a 5770, 500gb HDD, 500w PSU, Antec 300 ect until you have enough.

media cases are about the size of a VHS box (probably a tad bigger), and are designed to fit in with your living room equipment, as opposed to haveing a great big PC case next to your telly.

and yeah, this will work with your telly through HDMI

That will be good then, do they require standard size PSU's or smaller?

Media case is a deffo then, thats the reason I'm selling my Akasa Eclipse. Don't want a massive black box sitting in the corner. Think the missus would give me a massive hard time over it

well like i said, im not too familiar with these cases, one of the reviews on the site siad this takes a standard PSU, but a proper review i found in google claimed it came with a PSU.
Its best to buy the parts, and if it does come with a PSU included (and the wattage is enough), then just take the OCZ one back

I've got the LG 32LH3000 32" Full HD LCD TV.
On one website it says it can handle resolutions upto 1920x1080p

Only problem I may have is that it only had 2 HDMI sockets which are currently occupied by my PS3 and the V+ HD box

You could get some kind of splitter?

Will that be ok or would I loose picture/sound quality?

Also, will a media centre PC like this allow me to do all the usual work that would be done on a PC? I'm just wondering as I have a laptop at the moment to browse the net and play some games on (although its not that powerful graphics wise)

gaming wise, majority of gaming will probably be done on the ps3 so it'll just be the odd games on this....mass effect, etc. might not be much gaming on the pc seeing as most games come out on the ps3 now as well and i dont see many pc exclusives coming out anymore
