Help ! Which Phone.

Just because it comes with these things, does not mean it does them well.

As I've said before, its best factor will (probably) be the camera, from an OS point of view it's way behind Android.

Out of the box, the hardware is better on the n8. Symbian^3 will be the latest version of the most popular phone OS in the world, albeit with the most crappy games. We'll have to wait and see for the n8's eventual release. If you like installing "OMG I can pretend Im drinking beer" app it's also available for symbian. As is "OMG lightsaborz". :)

Symbian is let down by quantity of apps but the quality of the main ones is great. And they would appear to do what I need them to do. As some meerkat once said, "Simples."

For OP:
f you're open to wider suggestions then "just a phone and camera" is where SE reign supreme with midrange items like the vivaz.

For Arc@css -Nokia N8 is likely to be pretty average and it's extremely untested software/app wise, I'd dodge for now considering the competition is a lot more mature and represents likely better value.

That leaves BB's, Androids and iPhones.

If you want it for business, email or you want a qwerty kb then it's blackberry.
If you want a smartphone that just "works" and don't mind paying a bit extra for it then it's an iPhone (i'd try and stick with 4s as the resell will be better after you've finished with it).
If you want a smartphone that allows you to go under the hood a bit, maybe a bit more customisation, then you'd be after an android (try and stick to a desire / galaxy S).

Apps are better on iphone/android rather than BB/Nokia in general, iphone would win if you just look at today but android is gaining speed.

I suppose the thing to do is to bite the bullet, choose one, and if I don't like it then I can send it back. I am umming and arrrring between a Blackberry or Android (Galaxy S). Do I go payg or contract / sim free?

I like the look of Blackberry - with the qwerty keyboard but the size of the screen with the Galaxy S also is an attractive option.

Btw ty Myshra for your help. :)

Someone on my twitter account just said that o2 are selling the Galaxy S for £320 which would be a really good price.

If you can wait a few weeks now, you might want to look at the Nokia N8. Google nokia n8 comparison desire iphone or something.

I haven't checked out Nokias since the n95 but google says the N8 has an old arm11 cpu and just 256mb memory. That's considered a budget smartphone now? (with the large camera as its main selling point)

If you don't mind a 24 month contact (with orange) and cashback offers, I'd be tempted by the HTC wildfire at mobiles.co.uk/quidco.
That comes to ?150 over 2 years (?6.25pm ) + If you don't like the wildfire just sell it and get something else.

Why do you have such a hard on for the N8? It's specs are mediocre - 680 MHz processor, 256MB ram and Symbian ^3 OS.

The UI looks pants and the body itself looks average.

And so what if 'Symbian^3 will be the latest version of the most popular phone OS in the world' - Symbian is like Internet Explorer 6 - only the most used browser because its been out the longest - not because its best.

On moneysupermarket the cheapest comparison for contract is £20.31 on Orange (Canary). I was thinking of payg but I'd expect you'll lose the advantage with all the costs of calls etc.
