Mass Effect - Job Done

Funny, I've owned the game for over a year and just never got around to playing it until just recently too. Just completed it this very minute then saw this thread. It was an awesome game and can't believe it's taken me so long to get around to playing it. Epic, epic game, even though it only took me 9-10 hours to complete even with a bunch of side quests. I really need to play through ME2 now that the storyline is fresh in my mind, although I need to finish DA:O too especially with DA2 looming. Wish I had more time to play games!

get mass effect 2 :)
i played through the first again just before it came out to refresh things

it makes me jealous when someone is playing games like mass effect for the first time :p makes me wish i could erase that part of my memory and take it all in again

Same here, I'd love to be able to go through ME1 + 2 without knowing what's happening.

I didn't watch any trailers of both games as I never really knew about them. I bought them both then played them back to back. All I can say is, the opening sequence for Mass Effect 2 seriously put me in awe...you'll know when you play it.

And the score in mass effect 2 is amazing!

If you want to branch off for a while then go for The Witcher, it's an awesome game.

However, I'd personally recommend diving straight into Mass Effect 2. It is, quite simply, the best gaming experience I've had this year. Remember the cinematic feel when you give the speech upon taking control of the Normandy? Well, get ready for that times twenty when you hit the final section of ME2. It's just...amazing.

Never played ME1, and started playing ME2 yesterday (despite having it for months).

Amazing game - not been this hooked on a game in a long long time.

Sorry to hijack thread, but still worth playing ME1 after I've finished ME2?

I played ME2 about a week after finishing ME1. Found the controls a bit disorientating at first but I'm glad I got stuck in while the story was still fresh in my memory.

I'd definitely recommend diving straight into ME2. The side quests are a lot more fun in the second game.

Well this weekend I got a chance to spend a fair bit of time on the PC and played about 5 hours of Fallout 3 and about 8 hours of The Witcher. Both are good games, Fallout 3 looks fantastic and I love the setting of The Witcher. But.... I ended up starting another character on ME, just such a great game. Gone for a custom character this time instead of the Default Soldier class, created an infiltrator. So we'll see how this class plays until ME 2 turns up :)

I really really can't wait for Mass Effect 3. I'm going to try my best to stay away from any trailers and press updates so I don't spoil anything.

ME1 and The Witcher are 2 of the best games I have ever played. I got bored of FO3 in the same way as I did with Oblivion, unsurprising as they run the same engine and general uber-sandbox style.

I would say go to ME2 with storyline afresh, as it makes the consequences of your actions in ME1 more prevalent in ME2.

Loving ME2 btw.

Just thought I would add the the ME love.

ME has really made it difficult to play Dragon Age as with Mass Effect you feel like a real piece of a grand story but in Dragon Age it is like you are just watching the story unfold.

Can't wait for ME3.

Well the difference is that in DAO you are your own character, whereas in Mass Effect, despite facial customization and class choice, at the end of the day you are Shepard. This allows bioware to make Shepard more of a part of the story, have his own dialogue etc. but at the cost of freedom of choice.

I think it's similar to advantages and disadvantages of sandbox games. Linearity allows the writers to focus more on story progression, but again at the cost of freedom.

At the end of the day I think it's just two ways of doing things, and I was glad that Bioware had games that catered to both options, which is why I'm disappointed to learn that DAO2 will be adopting a Shepard-style main character. Even if you prefer the Shepard way of doing it, surely diversity can only be a good thing.

Good points, I may give Dragon Age another chance.

Play through again and you get more powerful weapons and content and enemies are harder etc (shotgun with explosive projectiles ***!!!)

I think i played it through like 4 times with the same character in the end back on the 360 :)

I got the HE rounds towards the end of the game, something like 400% dmg but 400% heat increase. Put them in my assault rifle to start with, got 4 rounds off, overheated and dropped them into my Sniper Rifle:p
