Mass Effect - Job Done

I must be one of the few that don't rave about ME. Don't get me wrong it is well done but having played MMO's almost exclusively for 6 years or so it really seems restrictive and very theme park. I also found the frequent cut scenes a bit annoying slowing down the flow of my play.

I guess that's why I don't play many stand alone games now and about to burned as a heretic! ;)

I'm pretty much the opposite, with my old PC not being able to play anything new for the last 3 years of so I've not been able to play anything apart from MMO's they were EVE and WoW, the last single player game I bought was Oblivion(got 96 hours played on it).

Having played WoW pretty much exclusively for the last few years apart from a very breif spell on LOTRO (which runs terrible on my old system), I've found playing some of the new single player games has made me want to move away from spending most of my time in MMOs and play offline. This is down to the quality of the big releases, ME/FO3/The Witcher etc, the storylines coupled with todays fantastic gfx have tipped the balance back in favour of single player gaming for me.

Just took the plunge and bought ME1 - something to keep me going until SC2 comes out next week.

Any good hints/tips or should I just play through?

Just play through really, it's pretty straight forward. Might want to do as many side quests as possible really as from what I can gather if you just do the main mission it can be quite short.

How good is ME2?! It looks great and plays great. Just as good as ME1 but the differences are quite apparent in some places.

Got about 4 hours done so far. Been to the Citadel and done the mission to find grunt, he's now on my team and is rock solid.

Not sure about the way you move between the citadel, seems like you have to select a location to fast travel to a lot more than the old one and I liked the way you could wander around for ages.

The way you scan for minerals is different and quite good, same with finding anomolies on a planet. Again it's different but apart from randomly driving around for mineral I honestly didn't mind the Mako.

I wish they'd kept the different weapons and upgrades from ME1 I loved it when I was able to buy all the Spectre weapons, felt like I was really getting somewhere, not sure keeping the same weapons and armour will give that feeling.

Same with accessing the journal and character screen, I don't like having to go to the main menu to do this. I'd much rather press J or U.

Altogether though, it's great, Still very much at the beginning but it's shaping up to be just as good as the 1st

*did'nt want to post this in the ME2 thread as I don't want to happen across any spoilers.

Ha, yea i hate the fact that their missing journal and codex binds, don't understand why it isn't there. And i do agree on the missing inventory system, although it was just broke in the original, along with credits, i was a millionaire by the end of it.
Storywise i prefer the first, although the combat is a hell of a lot more defined in the second.

And let's face it the Mako was awesome but the planets along with side missions were s***te.

If you really enjoyed it you could play through a few more times and get level 60 with the paragon alignment you desire and then import it into ME2 and get a few bonus increases, I'd dive straight into ME2 if I were you its improved and tweaked quite a lot compared with ME1 and a very enjoyable gaming experience, plus the story will be fresh in your mind.

ME 1 and 2 are definitley up there with the best games ever released. I love them equally as much and can't wait for the 3rd chapter (hopefully next year sometime)

I just hope Hollywood makes a film of Mass Effect and uses Luc Besson (The Fifth Element) as the director.

After I've finished ME2, there's a small chance I'll play fallout 3 or the witcher, but I'm probably going to start again in ME1 and do a Renagade infiltrator and get him up to 60 then do ME2 again..

Anyone know of any cheap deals for ME1 atm?
Finished ME2 and loved it - think I must've done most/all side quests too, as I chose to continue the game and currently have nothing to do (unless I gor resource farming and upping my tech).

Finished ME2 the other night, story was great, although I skipped a lot of fluffy side-missions and really only did enough of the resource mini-game to get myself the ship upgrades. Roll on ME3!

Most importantly, who did you all go for!? Miranda wins.

Oh, and hi Afran. xD

I got the HE rounds towards the end of the game, something like 400% dmg but 400% heat increase. Put them in my assault rifle to start with, got 4 rounds off, overheated and dropped them into my Sniper Rifle:p

Tried putting those babies in a shotgun? Serious ooh la la there :D To the OP: try playing the soldier/psionics hybrid (can't recall the name right now - Sentinel?). It kicks some serious ass and is really fun :) As for your choices i'll join in on what everyone else said: play ME2 straight after ME1. Get all the adventure based DLC as well (the costume packs are laughable).

I didn't go for any option - I'm staying faithful to Ashley ;)

I've done that, gone straight into ME2 :)

On this play through I'm staying faithfull aswell, next one I'm doing the renagade side so I won't have any morals whatsoever :)

I've just pipped 79 hours with my main character, and she's just a few thousand xp from level 60. :D

Looking forward to importing her into ME2, seeing how things turned out with the 'right' decisions :)
