Looks like I'll be getting a 250GTS 1GB to replace my 3870... yes I know it's not an ace card nowadays.. and I wish I was going for the 260 or 4870.. but trying to budget and I just sold some bits.... blah blah..

So... what's the average overclock people were getting with this card please?

250 isn't a special overclocker iirc
Erm...I don't know where you got that info from...

GTS250 is rebranded 9800GTX+, so it should overclock as far as it can.
9800GTX+ spec:

GTS250 spec:

9800GTX+ can overclock from clock speed of 738MHz to around 820~850MHz depending on luck, and some will artefact earlier than the other (overclocked much than the GPU can handle or the temp is not low enough). My 9800GTX+ is an unluckly draw, so I can still overclock it up to 770MHz without artefacts appearing. When I run the Heaven Benchmark with the clock speed at 800MHz with the fan profile which I set, there would always have artefacts appearing during the benchmark, however when I set the fan speed to run at 80%, the artefacts would seem to not appear at all.

After looking into it, there appears to be a lot of issues with the freeze/lockup/looping noise with 250 gts 1gb. I will likely be giving my friend the card back and keeping an eye on the members market instead for something better. Shame really as when working it ran very smoothly.
