What is currently the best graphics card under £100.

I was thinking the radeon 4850, 4870, 5750, 5770

What are the difference between these? Which is the best? Which model of them should you buy (512mb or 1gb)(sapphire or asus e.t.c)?

How much of an improvement is DX11 or 10.

BTW, I dual screen. I run a 20" monitor in 1680 x 1050 (for everything), and a 32" HD TV in 1920 x 1080 (for games).

Thank you.

For 1080p I'd recommend a 5770 as a minimum, although even one of these will struggle to play the latest DX11 games, especially if you want all the eye candy turned up with acceptable fps

What make is the PSU? If its a decent brand it should be fine.

The 5770 will probably be the best choice, or if you want to save up for a bit the GTX460 would be even better.

Akasa PSUs have traditionally been reliable enough whilst not always the most energy effecient. Certainly way better than any generic PSU or cheapo brand.

That said, I would stick to the 5XXX series - they use considerably less energy at idle and load - no need to chance it with a relativly modest PSU.

I would consider DX11 a nice to have feature, certainly not a must have feature. The only time it has made a noticable difference in my (limited) experience is tesselation in Stalker COP. The models do indeed look noticably nicer, especialy up close but its not something I would consider important by any stretch of the imagination.

"A single 5770 will struggle with games at 1080p I know because i have one and it does. "

I won't say you're wrong because there's a lot of personal opinion in it but I will say I disagree.

It depends what games you're playing & just how important putting settings to max is vs actual image quality.

I've found the 5770 to be a very nice card for 1080p, playing a mix of blockbuster and indie games.
Graphically demanding titles I play are : Stalker COP, Metro 2033, Need for Speed Shift. I've had to make a few settings tweaks to each of these but visuals are far, far closer to max than min here, to the point most people would have to deliberately look for the differences.

I know I will be pleased with any upgrade since im coming from a sh*tty 4650 where I play on 1440 x 900 with the lowest settings.

My friend has a single 5770 and plays all his games at high settings on a 1440 x 900 monitor and never complains about sluggish game play i think it would be a great card for you to buy

There's a lot of difference between 1440*900 and 1920x1080!! 1440x900 will likely be a 19" Widescreen monitor. a 5770 will certianly push that screen res with no problems but if he wants full HD at an acceptable framerate and something that he won't have to replace in 12-18 months time then IMO a GTX460 1GB or a 5850 is the only real sensible choice.

Err I have a HD5770 and it plays all my games at 1920x1200 with ease, the only games it’s struggles with is Metro2033 and Crysis at max settings but then again every card struggles with those two titles.
