The utter insanity of insuring a car in London

I live in London too, passed three years ago at 18, was a named driver in my first year, need a car but havent had a car for the last two years as the insurance is just too expensive, made the mistake of not buying this time last year cos the qoutes were cheaper, this year its just rising every 3 months, coming upto around 3k for even 1-1.4 superminis, which is around the same prices when i first passed, did a qoute with a cornwall postcode and prices were around £600-700, i think i should just move there lol

sucks :(

London is full of car crime, huge traffic and people driving aggresively and parking like morons. As a result, claim rates are higher, so insurance is higher.

Except that it's not, a few areas of London are an issue, but many aren't now.
And lots of traffic means slower speed, which means lower chance of an accident

Slower moving traffic does not mean less chance of incident, more cars per sq mile of tarmac, more congestion, more idiots, more crashes. Take that from someone who works in Central London and lives in a London suburb, not just someone who visits the odd weekends.

He's not talking about accidents, he's talking about claims.

Every single day and i mean EVERY day i see someone reverse into someone outside my office in Hatton Garden.

How many claim i dont know, but there is always a row going on between 2 annoyed parties.

less chance of an accident or less damage if an accident occurs? agreed with the latter but not the former, just because lower speeds are involved this is not the only contributing factor to accident rates.

I'm over in Bloomsbury Square o/ Lots of Jewellers down Hatton Garden, is that where the username comes from? ;)

I can't help but face palm every time I come back to this thread. The concept that one person can decide how many accidents occur in a city of millions based on their own experiences is genuinely lolworthy.

If only there were companies that could professionally assess the average risk of a claim based on historical data. They could even represent that risk in monetary form......wait...hang on...

I know its not definitive, but look at these stats.:

I bet you didn't have Chislehurst, Redbridge, Romford and Rainham down as your hotspots of car crime in London.

Or check this out from an insurer:

Swiftcover noted that London remains the car theft capital of the country, but surprisingly the Midlands are the second-riskiest spot for car thefts.

Zone 1 and 2, I'd agree. The rest are more or less like any other town in the UK.

This ^^

A lot of people seem to be confusing Central london with london i mean manchester aint just the shopping center is it.

Where i live is classed as west london and it's nothing like a lot are saying in here , crime aint to bad and traffic is free flowing 90 % of the time hell even the A40 and the M25 aint that bad unless it's rush hour or there's been an accident.

5 mins drive/ride in any direction apart from toward's Central london and you can find some nice roads to play on.

As for insurance dont alway's go by what the online place's quote , i mean i tried a few online place's for quote's last year and some of the quote's i was getting were soooo funny im talking 5k funny and i'm 41. ( mine is specalist though )

Ended up phoning around and getting it for £300 full comp with break down cover , personal accident cover and legal cover , not 1 of the online quote's came even close.

So those just shoving in post code's on these web site's dont allways take the quote as fact for that area
