Tell me about the mk5 Golf R32

They are nice but given you can get a brand new Skoda Octavia vRS FSI from drivethedeal for about the same money, which has similar performance and much better fuel economy, looks expensive.

Thanks guys. I'm leaning towards keeping the 4Mo. I do like the R32 but I'm just not that sure I like it enough to part with a huge wad of cash over my current car. Particularly as I rarely drive fast :)

But I'll see how I feel about it tomorrow.

just seen this post on the corrado forum. the R32s do seem to hold their price pretty well

Which Corrado do you have?

My vote would be for the Corrado, been looking at them myself more and more over the last couple of month. Actually finding a decent one now thats the challenge.

A fair bit of wear on the drivers seat by the looks of things, no great surprise judging by the shape of the seat but it would annoy me.

Lovely sound though :)

yeh that base bolster looks like it's took a pasting, that's gonna cost a fortune if it collapses as you obviously wouldn't want a collapsed bolster on this car. nice car though, very understated 5 door fun

the mk4 is a great quality car, i miss mine immensley and certainly think that the materials are better and it's a nicer interior design

the corrado is a great car but there's a lot of sheds out there now, there's alos a lot of top draw ones though but expect to buy from an enthusiast and pay top money, i don't know what the spare parts are like either but if it goes wrong it could be expenisve so i woulld personally try and find a vr6 with minimal engine mods, a g60 would be too expensive if it went wrong and a 16v would be a bit .... meh

Yep, VAG are now deleting a lot of spares for the Corrado so getting hold of them will be harder. There are quite a few being broken but as the years pass then even this source will dry up. So if I do eventually get one then I think it's important to get the right one (hence not being in a rush yet). An interesting modified VR6 has just come up but it's probably best to go for a standard car for the reasons you've said.

My folks had an 06 plate one, was a nice car.

Sounded good, deceptively quick when cruising on the motorway and pulled well at high speeds.

Handled ok, nice enough inside, overall I liked it.

Only thing that'd put me off is the relatively high prices they seem to command.

The seats you're inquiring about are Recaro seats, an expensive option and quite popular. The MK4 featured them as standard but in either full leather or half leather and half material. Depends if you're comfortable in them, try sitting in it and see!

Not quite, the mk4 had Konig seats, not Recaros.

Thanks. I'm still leaning towards keeping my 4Mo. Servicing and insurance costs will double and I'd have to outlay a lot of cash on a depreciating car. It was lovely though and I may revisit it at a later date.

i live 20 minutes away from worcester and if i had £3k for one of these i would certainly pay this one a visit it may seem a lot of money for an L reg vw but no mods? that's got to be pretty rare. it's not a storm model though and imo, that is what you should be trying to source

I've been keeping an eye on that one and it looks interesting. The age doesn't bother me. The newest one is 15 years old so the condition and history is more important than the age.

Getting a Storm would be nice, and I'd have one if I can find a good one in my budget. But they carry a premium for a badge when you can get an equally nice standard VR6 for less. For this type of car then getting a good one is more important than getting a badge.

I just had a giggle. A heavily modified VR6 with a lot of engine work (probably just as quick as the R32 after the work) is a lot cheaper for me to insure than the R32.

There are a few 4Mo and R32 engined Corrados about, buy one of these, or even buy a good Corrado and have it done (£3k including a 4Mo engine iirc, more for the R32) - its something I think about a lot - I miss my VR6, but don't miss what seemed like I was working on it all the time, a more modern engine would alleviate a fair few of these issues, I think, as well as being much faster.

mk5's will not hold their money like the mk4. The mk4's were built in muh smaller quantities and didn't need to be sold off cheap to clear stocks.

6 months ago you could get a brand new R32 for £19,999.

O/T: Have current Golfs gone a bit "Volvo" and run with dayligh lights?

Every one I see during the day seems to have side lights on....

That may be so, but what do you pay for one now, that's what matters :)

You'll still pay the same for an 09 plater with 15k on the clock from a dealer now, maybe more in some cases.

VW had an offer on tail end of 2008, £17,995 brand new, 2 day deal to shift a lot of stock they had. That was for the base model with no extras at all.

Holy carp that's cheap!

Yup was a blinding deal for people who got one, could sell it now for what they paid for it. Although you'd have to of specced leather seats at least!
