This is where the A3 really starts to make sense but make sure you buy a decent warranty with that DSG box!

That is correct. And the Type 8L came out out in 1996.
Sorry, I did not originally realise the distinction - I sold my S3 in 2002.

Still, the Mondeo hatch is 60cm longer than an A3/Focus.
