Which is likely to be a better buy and why:

Car A- Mondeo Ghia X 2004 53 Plate 2.0 TDCI 130, 125000 miles, 1 owner FSH.

Car B- Mondeo Ghia X 2004 53 Plate 1.8 Petrol, 125000 miles, 1 owner FSH.

Car C- Mondeo Ghia X 2004 53 Plate 2.0 Petrol, 100000 miles, 1 owner FSH.

All of the cars are £2795, serviced and MOT'd in similar condition.

There's no benefit to the higher mileage, smaller engined petrol so that one's out

IF the diesel has been looked after and has had a new flywheel and you can justify the extra fuel economy then the TDCI, but most likely Car C

Car C.

Car A could have the usual problems associated with modern diesels.

Car B is slower but not necessarily more economical than Car C. If they're the same price - might as well go for the lower mileage but slightly faster option.

see which ones had a clutch its about the right mileage for one and they are a pig to do about 1100 from a dealer and also a/c if its working

This.

Car A, seems cheap for the money!

Obviously that's putting aside things like condition etc which can't be judged without seeing.

Car C all the way, as mentioned the engine's are bulletproof!

and 100K is the rough mileage for the clutches to go, best make sure that which ever one you choose, it has had the clutch done :)

Hardly, it entirely depends on how it's been treated. I looked at a 60k mile car once that was on its third clutch but I've seen 200k milers on the original clutch

Car C because Car B will have a 1.8 SCI wont it? This is a direct injection petrol engine.

In the world of cars that wont break, direct injection is a bad thing.

Cambelt tensioner failed. Asked a Ford main dealer to change it along with the belt when I bought the car but they insisted it was not required on my engine.

They were wrong.
