Iam in the process of trying to sort out various policies for when I move into my new flat. My mortgage adviser has recommended the below...

accident, sickness and unemployment £24.40 per month

life and critical illness £19.89 per month

contents £11.91 per month

total is £56.20

Just curious to see what everyone else is paying and what cover you have.

I only pay buildings (and contents) @ 20 quid for the moment - thats the only pre-requisite for our mortgage. Will get the others in due course!

Of course your mortgage advisor recommended all that. He gets a cut of you take it all. Buildings will probably be mandatory with the mortgage. Contents you could probably give or take but how would you feel if you got robbed by some ***** tea leaf and had to replace it all out of your own pocket?

I'd certainly shop around for a cheaper deal anyway, chances are those prices aren't the cheapest going.

+1

Those costs seem perfectly reasonable to me, assuming you're in your 20's and the sums assured are sufficient enough.

Thanks people, I dont need home insurance as its a flat so the service charge covers that. Just need the contents and maybe the others. Been on MSE...but its information overload on there!

if you are single with no dependants you dont need to bother with life cover - critical illness could be a good shout

apart from buildings and contents i never bothered with any other insurances - there was no financial need for them
check your work sick policy - my company gives me 6 months full pay then 6 months half
