I have got fed up with using a crappy laptop so I am after building something to use for gaming so I want to see what other peoples ideas are so I can see if I can make any improvements to what I have in mind, my budget is 2-3000

£2,071.13 inc shipping.

Would go with Redmints, however, instead of those PC166's go with the PC350's as they're currently the best gaming headset available. :)

Considerations:

Is a TN screen okay for your uses? I have the monitor selected and for gaming it's the best I've used to date.
Do you want to replace the stock fans on the 800D?
Do you like logitech mice? Are you more of a Razer guy?
Do you want an SSD for boot?
Do you need a BD-RW?
Do you need more storage?
How crazy do you want to go with your headset? "google Psyko 5.1"

do you think that I would need to upgrade the cooling on the 800d because I have read in a few reviews that the cooling isnt as good as it should be in that case

The airflow could be better. You could add in addtional fans or swap out them all for higher airflow jobs.

Failing that there are cases ou there with much better airflow, I myself use the antec 1200 which has exceptionally good airflow :)

If airflow is a concern then checkout:
Antec 1200/902
Lian-Li Armoursuit P80B
Coolermaster Haf-X (or any of their HAF range)

Personally I would spend something like 1200 and spend the rest on upgrades in the next few years.
New sockets, graphics card etc. come out every year so theres no point spending loads on a soon-to-be outdated socket
