I went't to Latitude festival last weekend and really wanted to take my D700 and a couple of lenses to get some decent shots. Reading through the website it was made very clear that any professional camera's with detachable lenses were banned.. I didn't want to risk it so I just took my Cybershot point and shoot....

How many DSLR's were there in there?!!!!??? Almost every man and his son had one, most with 70-300VR lenses!

One observation I made though was that most of the photographers, even the Pros's working the site, were using Nikon cameras. I only saw a handful of Canon's.

I will most definitely be taking my D700 next year. ;)

Just proves that Nikon users are arrogant and think that rules do not apply to them, shocking really.

Joke! :D

Or Canon users have tastes and they went to Glastonbury instead.

:D

Indeed us canon user's choose the best Festivals to be seen at. All so how common are Nikon that every man and his son has one ! lol :D

Now for those wishing to take their trusty DSLR or 35mm SLR in to these festivals. You need to wear some combat trousers and put you gear in the leg pockets wrap in some cloth garmants perhap.

I am not sure on the rules these days on searching. Though some years back stewards could only ask you open your bag, they were not trained or perhaps licensed to body search people.
I have taken my DSLR to V festival every time I have gone, and it causes a stir with some girls, or is it the big lens ! ! lol

I worked as a steward there last year and was never instructed to search bags or told that certain cameras were not allowed :)

That is how it should be.

With the amount of compact camera's, iPhones ect any one can take a picture and post it there and then on the web !

Perhaps sniffer dogs on the gates for those taking in drugs might be a good idea !

It was the same for Royal Ascot. Left my kit at home because pro cameras weren't allowed, and when I got there, there were hundreds.

I felt the same way... Decided not to bring my Fuji S5 or Nikon F3 and went with my little Canonet instead. Ah well I had a great weekend!

That's happened to us on a couple of occasions. A Coldplay concert, and a visit to RAF Cosford. VERY annoying to see others with their big kits taking lots of awesome pics while we decided to be good and leave the camera at home lol... :(

Thanks for making a rant. it made me think......

im not a photographer (well novice maybe) but i bought the canon 400D as i had noticed it in practical photography mag. Liked the feel and functions of it in Jessops so bought it.

Id never thought of buying a Nikon at all and just made me read this..
