I had a dilemma recently where I sent a laptop to a friend in Iceland via UPS, but it didn't work out, Customs wanted too much info which I could not provide (the laptop is a manufacturer refurbished custom model and they wanted receipts and websites and real values etc. which there are none of)

So I am having the item returned to me, the laptop is worth approx £1500, but in Iceland it would be worth £3,000~

So does anyone know a way I can get it to my friend in Iceland safely, avoiding any taxes or duty fees?

There must be some way?

Cheers

Personally I would book a flight over there put it in a laptop case so if stopped at customs just say its yours. Flights last time I checked are very cheap.

The only other way would be to tick the box that says gift and hope customs dont ask your friend to bend over and cough up duty/ tax charge. But with no invoice or receipts with it I dont know how they would work out a charge.

this is exactly what I did, unfortunately they are not accepting it as a gift, they wanted to know the "reason" for the gift, even after I tried to explain, they still wouldn't accept it.

You tried the excuse that it was left on a train/plane and your returning it to them. I think they would beleive that coming from the UK. Seeing as were quite good at that.

not a bad idea, although in my short experience in dealing with Icelandic customs I imagine they would ask for dates, flight details, receipts of flights lol
