Asus 5870 1GB or this....

wow that is a bargain. The Eyefinity 6 will be a better card for bigger resolutions such as 5040x1050 and above but below that you are unlikely to notice any difference between it and a 1gb card. e.g. see latest review here: http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/wiki/ATI_Radeon_CFX_-_Featured_Review_-_Page_8

if u get the eyefinity 6 bear in mind you will also need mini-DP to -> DP -> DVI/VGA/HDMI adapters for whichever monitors u have which adds to cost.

hmm i dunno if that is a misprint as that is very cheap. The ASUS has a year longer warrenty and is a better overclocker as it has voltage adjustment so it's up to you.

with this ur buying for the future and well.. it is £30 cheaper anyway !!! hell i wish i bought it!

but beware.. it only has mini display ports !!
so if u dont have a compatible monitor then you will need to buy a active adapter thingy which are £70 each

nope.. u need an active one dell make one which i use and its great but on this site there is only this one..

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-223-SP&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1502

passive will not work, u can tell if its active because it will be powered via usb or something

*edit.... this is certainly true for the standard 5870, although that product u said does say that it is fully compatible with the eyefinity 6 edition so i suspect its different and im wrong

naa 5870 is the way to go,
but it depends on how often u update ur card
if ur into overclocking maybe just go for the 5850 and OC it

but damn it does seem like a bargain... remember future proof!!

anyway i will stop spamming you now lol

A genuine bargain. Why anyone would get a 1GB 5870 over this is beyond me.

Just so wrong. It comes with a multitude of mini display port adapters to dvi, hdmi, display port. You need active adapters if you wish to go over 1900 x 1200 rez.

Also, I read a review where this card was over volted using Afterburner, so another plus there. Also in the future, games will use more memory (Metro 2033 already does), so a little bit of future-proofing.

Yeah I'd go for the 2GB version, that really does seem a bargain and with games using more and more vRAM can't go wrong really. :)

Definately go for the 2gb version. Its cheaper as well, seems like a great deal.

On the Powercolor website it says it comes with 1x mini DP to single DVI, 1x mini DP to HDMI and 2x mini DP to normal DP adapters.

seems a bit of a no brainer really, might get one myself, the only thing stopping me is there seems to be problems with ati drivers

As the card comes with adapters i'd say go for the 2GB version, as said above the extra VRAM will come in handy on newer DX11 titles such as Metro 2033. However, you can see in the review I linked above that you probably wouldnt notice the difference at your resolution. But better to have it and not use it yet than need it and not have it ;)

and to dispell a myth: YOU DO NOT NEED AN ACTIVE ADAPTER TO RUN EYEFINITY unless using greater than 1920x1200 on the DP connected monitor.

The Asus is £30 more expensive than the E6 for a slightly better cooler and a year longer on the warranty, probly not worth the extra tbh. You could always save urself another £15 and go for the XFX 5870 at £285 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=gx-147-xf&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1502. the extra £15 for the e6 could be considered future proofing tho if you intend to keep the card a while and may have better resale value.

this is the sapphire 2gb version but should give you a clue what to expect at 1680x1050 http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/foru...hire-hd-5870-2gb-toxic-edition-review-12.html
