Buying New or Secondhand

I've bought and sold stuff on an auction site (selling my d5000 and lenses at the mo to help fund a cellar conversion) and i've never had a problem and always given my best to whoever buys from me.

but i think it depends on how honest people are on auction sites

I got my 40D from ebay and haven't had any problems with it at all. Just obey the usual golden rules of ebay. A few hundred 100% feedback scores etc.

Had no issues going second hand, saved myself over £500 on my current kit compared with new prices, and a further £200 saving on kit I've sold on, which was sold for a similar price I bought it for 2 years ago. Raised my insurance quote by a quarter going for the new prices compared to what I really paid for them.

Definitely not ebay - would only consider it at places where reputation is worth something, like fredmiranda or photography-on-the-net. Even then you have to be wise. With the right rep, I would gladly import something second hand from a US fredmiranda seller, but without I wouldnt drive 10 minutes to pick up. Regardless, definitely not ebay.
