Bangs head against Wall!
Yes I see the value in someone getting a 5850 and overclocking to 5870 speeds.
But.... I also hear many people complaining about crashing and blue screens etc... with overclocked 5850...
Hang on when you say overclock it to 5870 speeds do you mean just 850 on the core and 4800MHz on the ram?
Is that do able by a noob like my self, easily?
Additioally I would prefer to get a ATI card, as it sucks less juice, runs cooler and I have a crossfire mobo.
Should I just say screw it and get the cheapest 5870 I can find?
Or can I get close to 5870 with a 5850, and overclock my self?
Is it worth paying extra for the PC++ at £311 with what looks like a max overclock, or going for the cheaper stock xfx 5870 at £284?
Thanks
Ok, thanks guys for putting up with my incessant mumbling!
I think im gona go 5870.

If you're getting a 5870 you'd be utterly bonkers not to get the 2GB Powercolor that's currently at £299 at OCUK.
Bonkers.
From the benchmarks Iv seen the extra memory only adds on average about 2fps.
I do not need eyefinity.
Is it still worth it?

What about paying the extra to get a preoverclcoked card such as:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-133-PC&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1502
That looks like its clocked to the max?
This kind of overclock however, does it substatially improve frame rates?
I suppose you either love em or you hate em. You pay a lot more for them compared to stock cards, but at the same tiome you're guaranteed that overclock. You could be unlucky like me and get a 5870 that doesn't overclock at all, but at the same time if you bought the Xfx card for 280 odd quid you could be getting a card that will clock higher (1ghz anyone?).
Check some reviews on that card, see if it can go any higher.
Which model 5870 do u have and have u tried installing a different bios on it?
Same thoughts here, im leaning towards the GTX 470 though, not too fussed about the noise, my 280 has the annoying capasitor squeel!
I do a lot of video editing and photoshop work, do the ATi cards work with the acceleration?
I have the standard Sapphire card, bios limited to 900mhz and hates overclocking in any way shape or form. I've thought about sticking and Asus or HIS bios in there but I'm scared of bricking the card =/
